7.4.1 Class management

This section describes how to create a new class for a configuration item.

First, create a new class, and then set the “fields” (items into which information is entered) for the created class. It is not possible to edit the classes provided by default.

[Create a class]

1. Select [Admin] from the main menu, then click [Administration]-[General Catalog]. The [General Catalog Management] screen will appear. Open [List]-[CATALOG CLASS]-[ITSM::ConfigItem::Class].
2. Click the [Add Catalog Item] button, then enter and save the following items to create the class.

For details, see the OTOBO manual.
https://doc.otobo.org//manual/packages/ITSMConfigurationManagement/master/en/content/configuration/custom_configuration_and_advanced_features/general_catalog_classes_of_the_CMDB.html#classes

[Set class fields]

3. Select [Admin] from the main menu and click [CMDB Settings]-[Config Items].
From the [List] of the [Config Item Management] screen, select the class of the configuration item you added. The selected class name will be added to [Actions]. Click the [Change class definition] button to open the editor screen.
4. You can create class definitions by entering class fields in YAML format.

For details, see the OTOBO manual.
https://doc.otobo.org//manual/packages/ITSMConfigurationManagement/master/en/content/configuration/custom_configuration_and_advanced_features/config_item_definitions.html

The history of the class definition is saved each time it is edited, so if a configuration item is registered and then the class definition is edited to add, change, or delete a field, the registered configuration item will be retained based on the class definition before the edit. However, when updating a registered configuration item according to an older class definition, the information must be updated according to the latest class definition.

[Delete a class]

Once a class is created, it cannot be deleted. If a class is no longer needed, you can invalidate the class by following the procedure below. If you invalidate a class, the class will no longer appear in the Configuration Item Overview, Search, or Import/Export Template Overview.

1. From the main menu, select [Admin] and then click [Administration]-[General Catalog]. The [General Catalog Management] screen will appear. Open [List]-[CATALOG CLASS]-[ITSM::ConfigItem::Class].
2. To invalidate a class, click on the class you want to invalidate. On the [Edit Catalog Item] screen, change the setting of the [Validity] field to "Invalid".
