JP1 Version 12 JP1/Performance Management Reference

1.4 Agents window

The Agents window is used to display reports related to agents and to check alarm status and event history. By using the Quick Guide, you can create brief reports or set up alarms.

You also use this window to add new agents, edit a monitoring agents tree, and bind agents and an alarm table.

To display this window, in the navigation frame in any PFM - Web Console window, click the Agents tab.

The following figure shows the Agents window.

Figure 1‒12: Agents window (when the business group access control functionality is disabled)

[Figure]

The following describes the displayed items:

Menu bar frame

Displays a menu that is common to all windows.

For details, see the description of the menu bar frame in 1.3 Main window.

Navigation frame

Displays hierarchically the agents managed by Performance Management.

You can select the format for displaying the agents tree.

Except for the following items, the items are the same as the items in the navigation frame of the Main window. For details, see 1.3 Main window.

Message area

A message is displayed when alarm information has not been completely applied. Click the message to display the Alarm Application Status window.

Display format

Enables you to select the display format for the agents tree. The available display formats are as follows:

  • Products

Displays the agents tree grouped by PFM - Agent or PFM - RM products.

  • User Agents

Displays any Agents tree created by the login user.

Multi select

Selecting this check box enables you to select multiple target agents from the agents tree to execute the same operation on all the selected agents. This check box is cleared as a default.

Tip

If you click the root or a folder when Multi select is selected, you can select or clear all nodes under the root or selected folder. If you click a folder in which all or some nodes are cleared, all nodes under the folder are selected. However, if you click a folder that contains only selected nodes, all of the nodes under the folder are cleared. If there are any subfolders under the folder you click, the status of the nodes contained in the subfolders also changes. In short, you can switch the selection status of all nodes contained in a tree by clicking the root.

Update automatically

When you select this check box, the agent status and the health check status displayed in the navigation frame are automatically updated. This check box is selected by default.

Display separately by business group

Displayed when the business group access control functionality is enabled, and Products is set for Indication Settings. If you select this item, agent trees are displayed separately by business group. By default, this check box is cleared.

Text box

Use this text box to filter agents by keywords. Specify a character string of 1 to 1,024 characters to filter the agents that will be displayed. To perform a multi-keyword search by using AND or OR, delimit keywords by using a single-byte space, a two-byte space, or a tab. A delimiter is counted as one word. The maximum number of words that can be entered as filtering keywords is 100.

Filter button

Filters agents by using the string specified in the text box.

Clear button

Clears the filtering status and the filtering condition.

AND

Select this option button to perform an AND search.

OR

Select this option button to perform an OR search.

Agents tree:

The display differs depending on whether you select Products or User Agents in Display format:

  • When Products is selected in Display format

The root is Products. On the second level of the hierarchy, folders with the product names of PFM - Agent or PFM - RM are displayed in alphabetical order. The agents are displayed on the third level of the hierarchy. For each agent, its service ID is displayed. In the case of a product with multiple data model versions, service-ID + (data model version) is displayed.

For details about service IDs, see the section that explains the naming rules of services in the appendix of the JP1/Performance Management Planning and Configuration Guide.

  • When User Agents is selected in Display format

The root is User Agents (login-user-name). Levels 2 through n of the hierarchy display the folders created by the login user. Each monitoring agent is displayed at its applicable hierarchical level. The name of each agent is shown as service-ID + (data-model-version).

For details about service IDs, see the section that explains the naming rules of services in the appendix of the JP1/Performance Management Planning and Configuration Guide.

When Products is selected in Display format, if PFM - Agent or PFM - RM has not been registered with a monitoring agent for which a PFM - Agent or PFM - RM other than PFM - Agent for Platform has been installed (the jpcconf agent setup command has not been executed), that agent is displayed under the folder named Unknown. When you add a new PFM - Agent or PFM - RM product, you must restart the Performance Management service. After the restart, product information is acquired again when PFM - Web Console is accessed.

Icons

An icon is displayed to the left of each component of the Agents tree. For details about icons, see Table 1-10 Configuration component icons and their meaning.

These icons have the following meanings:

  • [Figure]: Indicates the root.

  • [Figure]: Indicates a folder.

  • [Figure]: Indicates a monitoring agent.

  • [Figure]: Indicates the Remote Monitor Collector service.

  • [Figure]: Indicates a remote agent.

  • [Figure]: Indicates a group agent.

Icons also indicate each agent's status.

  • [Figure]: Normal status

  • [Figure]: Warning status

  • [Figure]: Abnormal status

  • [Figure]: Monitoring suspended status

  • [Figure]: Indicates that the status of the agent is either of the following, and that there is no substance:

    - Agent service information was deleted, after which PFM - Web Console was updated by the jpctool service sync command.

    - Because of configuration changes in a business group, the user's reference privilege for agents was deleted.

This icon is displayed only when User Agents is selected in Indication Settings. You cannot perform any agent operation for an agent with a translucent icon.

A health check status icon is displayed to the left of folder icons and agent icons. Note that group agents and agents without substance are not included in health checks. Therefore, the Not Supported icon is always displayed as the health check status for them.

For details about the health check status, see the chapter that explains error detection of Performance Management in the JP1/Performance Management User's Guide.

  • [Figure]: Not Supported

  • [Figure]: Running

  • [Figure]: Monitoring suspended

  • [Figure]: Incomplete

  • [Figure]: Stopped

  • [Figure]: Unconfirmed

  • [Figure]: Host Not Available

The status of a folder icon reflects the status of all the lower-level agents. As the health check status, only the status with the highest priority in a lower level of the folder appears. The display order by priority is as follows:

Host Not Available > Unconfirmed > Stopped > Incomplete > Monitoring suspended > Running > Not Supported

You can use config.xml to change the priority of the lower-level status propagated to a folder. For details about config.xml, see Initialization file (config.xml).

The displayed statuses are updated at the following times:

  • When Refresh is clicked in the navigation frame.

  • When a monitoring agent is clicked in the agents tree.

  • When the results of the operation selected in the method frame are displayed.

If Update automatically was selected, the statuses are refreshed automatically.

Note

For PFM - RM or PFM - Agent other than PFM - Agent for Platform, if you have not used the jpcwagtsetup command to register PFM - Agent or PFM - RM, icons for the reports will not be correctly displayed. To correctly display the icons, use the jpcwagtsetup command to register PFM - Agent or PFM - RM, and then restart PFM - Web Console.

Method frame

The agent name selected in the navigation frame is displayed as the title of the method frame.

When multiple agents are selected, the agents are displayed in the order in which they were selected. When four or more agents are selected, the number of selected agents is displayed instead of the agent names. If some agent names are duplicated, the number of unique agent names is displayed. Clicking the link for the number of agents opens the List of Selected Agents window as a new window.
