1.4.15 Process Monitoring Settings window

The Process Monitoring Settings window is used to set process monitoring in PFM - Agent for Platform and PFM - RM for Platform. The window is opened by selecting PFM - Agent for Platform and PFM - RM for Platform in the Agents window, and then selecting the Process Monitoring Settings method in the method frame.

The following figure shows the Process Monitoring Settings window.

Figure 1‒61: Process Monitoring Settings window

[Figure]

The following describes the displayed items:

Refresh

Updates the Process Monitoring Settings window to the latest status.

Create, Edit, or Delete Applications Definitions and Hide App Definition Templates

Switches between displaying and hiding the application definition template.

Application definitions

Specifies the application definition that will be used. You cannot select multiple definitions.

[Figure] button

Adds the selected application definition template to Application definitions.

Templates

Use to select a template for the application definition. Depending on the template that is selected, a description is displayed in the area at the bottom.

Edit Templates

Use to edit a template for the application definition. The Process Monitoring Settings > Application Definition Templates window opens.

Create button

Use to create a new application definition. The Process Monitoring Settings > Create a New Application Definition window opens.

If multiple agents are selected in the navigation frame of the Agents window, a new application definition for all the agents you selected is created.

Edit button

Use to edit the selected application definition. The Process Monitoring Settings > Edit an Application Definition window opens.

When multiple agents are selected in the navigation frame of the Agents window, the Process Monitoring Settings > Edit an Application Definition window for the agent at the highest position in the agents tree opens. The definition after the edit is then used to update all agents that have a definition with the same name. In addition, if one or more selected agents stop after the Process Monitoring Settings window appears, you will not be able to edit the definition.

Delete button

Use to delete the application definition you selected. The Process Monitoring Settings > Delete an Application Definition window opens. If multiple agents are selected in the navigation frame of the Agents window, the Process Monitoring Settings > Delete an Application Definition window does not appear. Instead, a dialog box asking if you want to delete the definition appears.

Note that when multiple agents are selected in the navigation frame of the Agents window, the definition is deleted from all the agents you selected. If one or more agents stop after the Process Monitoring Settings window appears, only the application definition on the agents that are running is deleted.

Process monitoring alarm settings
Start button

Binds the alarm table to be used for process monitoring to the agent you selected in the Agents window. If alarm tables are already bound to all the selected agents, this button is not available.

When multiple agents are selected in the navigation frame of the Agents window, the alarm table is bound to all the selected agents.

Tip

If you click the Start button, the alarm definitions in one of the alarm tables described below are bound to the agents. The alarm definitions to be bound to agents vary depending on the agents selected in the Process Monitoring Settings window.

  • PFM - Agent for Platform (Windows) (earlier than version 11-50)

PFM Windows Templates Alarms [APP] 09.10

  • PFM - Agent for Platform (Windows) (version 11-50 or later)

PFM Windows Templates Alarms [APP] 10.00

  • PFM - Agent for Platform (UNIX)

PFM UNIX Templates Alarms [APP] 09.10

  • PFM - RM for Platform

PFM RM Platform Templates Alarms [APP] 09.10

Stop button

Unbinds the alarm table to be used for process monitoring from the agent you selected in the Agents window. If the alarm table has already been unbound from all the selected agents, this button is not available.

When multiple agents are selected in the navigation frame of the Agents window, the alarm table is unbound from all the selected agents.

Important
  • Observe the following precautions when using PFM - Agent for Platform (Windows).

    - If the alarm table PFM Windows Templates Alarms [APP] 09.10 is already bound to the agents when the Start button is clicked, binding is not executed.

    - If the alarm table PFM Windows Templates Alarms [APP] 09.10 or PFM Windows Templates Alarms [APP] 10.00 is bound to the agents when the Stop button is clicked, the alarm table is unbound from the agents.

  • If an error occurs while the function for configuring process monitoring for the Agents tree is updating the application definition, the KAVJS2525-E message appears. If this message appears when you attempt to change an application definition name, there might be both the old and new application definitions. In this case, check the process monitoring settings for the agent indicated in the message.

If both the old and new application definitions exist, make sure that the new application definition is specified correctly. If there are no problems with the new definition, delete the old application definition. If you find any problem with the new definition, delete that application definition, and then edit the application definition again.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Process Monitoring Settings > Create a New Application Definition window or Process Monitoring Settings > Edit an Application Definition window

The Process Monitoring Settings > Create a New Application Definition window is used to select programs, commands, or services for monitoring in order to create new application definitions. The Process Monitoring Settings > Edit an Application Definition window is used to select programs, commands, or services for monitoring in order to edit application definitions.

The following figure shows the Process Monitoring Settings > Create a New Application Definition window.

Notes on editing application definitions when multiple agents are selected:

If an application definition that has the same name as the selected application definition is on multiple agents, all the applicable application definitions are updated. Make sure that only those agents whose application definition you want to edit are selected.

Note:

If you click the OK button in the window used to create or edit an application definition, an error described in messages from KAVJS2614-E to KAVJS2619-E might occur. If one of these errors occurs, you cannot create or update the application definition. However, the Process Monitoring Settings > Save an Application Definition Template window opens, and you can save the current state of the application definition settings as a template. For details, see 1.4.15(10) Process Monitoring Settings > Save an Application Definition Template window.
