4.4.6 Setting connection options for each agent

The remote control facility is likely to be used in an environment where different networks coexist. In some environments, wide area networks (WAN) and local area networks (LAN) might coexist. In some other environments, dial-up connection might be required. If agents might exist in such an environment, appropriate connection options, including an option which specifies whether to use dial-up connection, depend on each agent. However, connection options concerning agents are set on a controller basis. Consequently, connection options need be set up every time connection to an agent is established.

If you want to spare time for this, you should use the Properties dialog box to set appropriate connection options separately for each agent. If you do this, the controller can connect to agents without any changes in the connection options.

This subsection explains how to set the connection option items and how to pass the connection options. Note that the connection options can also be set in the Setup page when creating new items such as an agent.

Organization of this subsection
(1) Connection options
(2) Setting connection options for one agent
(3) Setting connection options for multiple agents
(4) Setting connection options for found agents
(5) Setting connection options for a request agent
(6) Inheritance of connection options

(1) Connection options

The connection options that can be set for each agent are the same as the connection options that are set in the environment where the controller operates.

For the operating environment settings, you can set connection options from the Properties dialog box's Connection page, Optimize transaction page, Mode page, and Dial-up page. If the connection options have not been set for each agent in the Agent Manager window, the connection options of the operating environment are applied.

The following table shows the connection option items and the corresponding operating environment settings, and provides references to the manual. For details on each connection option, see the description of the corresponding operating environment setting.

(2) Setting connection options for one agent

To set the connection options for an agent:

  1. Select the agent for which you want to set connection options. Then choose File and then Properties.
    The Properties dialog box appears.

    [Figure]

  2. Select the Set up the connection options check box in the Setup page.
When you select this check box, the setting items of the connection options activate, so that you can set them. If you clear the Set up the connection options check box, the connection options of the controller will be used. By default, this is cleared.
  3. Make the necessary settings.
For details on the connection options, see (1) Connection options. Depending on the items, settings details are displayed in the Details field when selecting the setting; so set these details as well.
  4. Click the OK button.
The connection option settings are applied to the selected agent. The new option settings will apply to future connections to the agent.

(3) Setting connection options for multiple agents

If you want to connect to multiple agents with the same conditions, you can batch set the connection options.

To set the connection options for multiple agents:

  1. Select agents for which you want to set connection options. Next, choose File and then Properties.
    The Properties dialog box appears.
If you select folders or networks along with the agent at this point, all the agents under those icons are subject to the settings.
  2. Click the Update Setup button in the Setup page.
The Update Setup dialog box for setting the connection options appears.
  3. Select the Set up the connection options check box.
The setting items of the connection options activate, so that you can set them. The setting method is the same as when setting individual agents.
  4. Make the necessary settings and click the OK button.
The connection option settings are applied to the selected agents.

To batch set the connection options for multiple agents in a folder, select a Folder icon and then perform the same operation.

(4) Setting connection options for found agents

You can set specific connection options for agents found on your network. In this case, the connection options are set to the network used in the search rather than the found agent. You cannot set the connection options for the Found Agent icon.

To set the connection options of found agents (Connection options can also be set before executing the search.):

  1. Select a network and choose File and then Properties.
    The Properties dialog box appears.
  2. In the Setup page, click the Setup button.
    The Found Agent Settings appears.
  3. Select the Set up the connection options check box.
When you select this check box, the setting items of the connection options activate, so that you can set them. The setting method is the same as when setting individual agents.
  4. Make the necessary settings and click the OK button.
The connection option settings for found agents are saved. The new connection option settings will be applied to agents found on your network in the future.

(5) Setting connection options for a request agent

You can set connection options in order to start remote control from a request agent. In this case, the connection options are set for the request server and not the request agent. You cannot set the connection options for the Request Agent icon.

To set the connection options of request agents (Connection options can also be set for before receiving a connection request.):

  1. Select a request server. Choose File and then Properties.
    The Properties dialog box opens.
  2. In the Setup page, click the Setup button.
The Settings for Request Agent dialog box opens.
  3. Select the Set up the connection options check box.
When you select this check box, the setting items of the connection options activate, so that you can set them. The setting method is the same as when setting individual agents.
  4. Specify connection options and click the OK button.
Connection options are set up for the request agents connected to this request server.

(6) Inheritance of connection options

Connection options for an agent are inherited as follows.
