Job Management Partner 1/Remote Control Description and Operator's Guide
The Optimize Transaction page allows you to set up the facility used to reduce the amount of data sent from the agent in order to permit a higher transmission speed.
While you are using the remote control facility, the screen data of the agent is being transferred to the controller. Sending the agent's screen data "as is" to the controller will increase the amount of transmission data and may extend transmission time. For this reason, the screen saver is automatically disabled on the agent while it is connected to the controller. In the Optimize Transaction page, you can also reduce the amount of transmission data and speed up the data transfer.
If more than one controller is connected to the agent, the effective settings will be those on the controller that has the most recently configured Optimize Transaction page. When the settings in this page on a controller are changed, a message dialog box that reports this change opens on the other connected controllers.
Note, however, that when multiple controllers using flow control are connected to the agent, if a controller that is connected later cancels flow control, the change in the settings will not have any effect. Moreover, no message dialog box reporting the change appears.
The Optimize Transaction page is shown below.

(1) Data traffic
- Compress the data to transfer
- Select this check box to compress transmission data.
- Data with a size of 4,096 or more bytes will be compressed for transmission. This value is suitable for use in the LAN environment. In the WAN environment, or when you want to compress data at a different threshold, click the Higher Level Settings button to open the Higher Level Settings dialog box. Here, you can specify the compression threshold for transmission data. For details on the Higher Level Settings dialog box, see (5) Higher level settings below in this subsection.
- The amount of transfer data is reduced approximately by half.
- Use flow control
- Select this check box to use flow control to automatically adjust the amount of data. By default, this is not selected.
- If you select this option, the amount of data transferred from the agent to the controller is controlled automatically. Therefore, remote controls handling high data volumes such as animation or video media, or running in an environment with slow speed communication lines, can operate under stable conditions. However, if you use flow control, the response time when compared to not using the flow control is slower and the display is not as smooth.
- Leave the check box unselected for a high-speed and smooth remote control. If, however, you are using a slow communication line or if you are displaying animation or video in the agent, the performance of the remote controller will degrade drastically.
(2) Desktop
You can specify options related to the agent's desktop display.
- Do not show the wallpaper
- Select this check box to suppress the display of wallpaper on the agent. Selecting this option will eliminate wallpaper-related information, and thus reduce the overall size of transmission data.
- If the agent is using the Web page viewing facility of the Active Desktop, however, you cannot suppress the display of wallpaper. In this case, select the Do not show the Active Desktop web page option at the same time.
- Do not show the window animation, etc.
- Select this check box to suppress window and menu animations, title bar and caption gradations, and other user interface effects on the agent window. Data for user interface effects will not be sent. This reduces the amount of data transferred. The user interface effects that can be suppressed with this check box are listed below.

- Do not show the Active Desktop web page
- Select this check box to suppress viewing Web pages on the agent's Active Desktop. Selecting this option will reduce the drawing data on the desktop background, and thus reduce the overall size of transmission data.
- Do not show window contents while dragging
- Select this check box to suppress the display of window contents while the window is being dragged on the agent. Selecting this option will move only the window frame on the agent, rather than the full window, and thus reduce the overall size of transmission data.
(3) Display
You can specify options related to the drawing process when the agent display is shown on the controller.
- Reduce bitmap color
- Select this check box to reduce the colors of bitmap images. Selecting this option will reduce the colors of bitmap images, and thus reduce the overall size of transmission data.
- You can choose either of the following color reduction methods:
- Monochrome
- Reduces the colors of bitmap images to two colors (that is, black and white). The following are restrictions when bitmap images are reduced to two colors:
- The colors of some bitmap images cannot be reduced.
- Screens behind menu lists might be displayed incorrectly after the menu lists are displayed.
- 16 colors
- Reduces the colors of bitmap images to sixteen colors. The following are restrictions when bitmap images are reduced to sixteen colors:
- This option is inactive when connecting to an agent whose version is 05-10.
- Even if 16 colors is chosen, when you connect to an agent whose version is 05-10, the Reduce bitmap color setting automatically changes to Monochrome.
- 256 colors
- Reduces the number of colors in bitmap images to 256. The following restrictions apply to the conversion to 256 colors.
- This option is inactive if the controller is connected to an agent 06-00 or earlier.
- If the controller is configured to 256 colors, and then is connected to an agent 05-10, it is automatically reconfigured to Monochrome. If the controller is connected to an agent the version of which is 05-23 or later and 06-00 or earlier, it is automatically reconfigured to 16 colors.
- Use cache to display bitmaps
- Select this check box to cache the bitmap images commonly used in Windows. Selecting this option will eliminate the bitmap data cached by the controller, and thus reduce the overall size of transmission data.
- Note the following when using this option.
- This option is inactive if the controller is connected to an agent whose version is 06-00 or earlier and whose operating system is Windows Me or Windows 98.
- If the controller is configured to select this option and then is connected to an agent whose version is 06-00 or earlier and whose operating system is Windows Me or Windows 98, the controller is automatically reconfigured to prevent the cache from being used to display bitmaps (the check box is cleared).
- The following free disk space will be required on both the controller and agent in order to create cache files.
Controller: 10 megabytes multiplied by the number of agents connected at the same time
Agent: 10 megabytes
- The cache file will be automatically deleted when the controller is disconnected from the agent. If cache file creation fails for a reason such as insufficient disk space, an error message reporting the cache file creation failure is displayed. This error causes the cache option setting to be automatically invalidated (the check box is cleared). However, connection is established normally. The error message is only displayed on the controller.
The following option is effective only when connecting the controller to a Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, Windows 2000, or Windows NT 4.0 agent.
- Use local font
- Select this check box to use the controller's fonts to display characters. Selecting this option will eliminate font-related information, and thus reduce the overall size of transmission data. Note that some text may not be shown correctly, depending on the font used.
- Send mouse movement at click in the window
- Select this check box to configure the system so that mouse movement information is transmitted from the controller to the agent only when the controller user clicks or drags the mouse. When this facility is enabled, the pointer on the agent display does not move even if the user moves the mouse on the controller side, as long as you do not click the mouse. The pointer on the agent display moves only when the controller user makes a clicking or dragging operation.
- Using this facility can reduce the overall size of transmission data. This facility is recommended when the connection is made over low-speed lines. However, this facility compromises operability, as the mouse position on the controller does not correspond to the pointer position on the agent.
(5) Higher level settings
You can configure the data compression threshold and polling interval to conform to the network environment to which you wish to connect the agent. The default settings are values recommended for use in the LAN environment. In the WAN environment, or if you want to modify the default values for the LAN environment, click Higher Level Settings. The Higher Level Settings dialog box appears.
Figure 3-10 Higher Level Settings dialog box
- Specify data size to compress
- Select this check box to specify the compression threshold for transmission data. You can select one of the following 6 settings as the compression threshold. The default setting is 4096 bytes or more.
- Click Description to view the description on how to specify the compression threshold.
- 1 byte or more
Compresses all transmission data. This option will increase the load on the CPU, and may slow down the processing speed.
- 512 bytes or more
Recommended for the WAN environment.
- 1024 bytes or more
Effective in the WAN environment.
- 4096 bytes or more
Recommended for the LAN environment.
- 8192 bytes or more
Effective in the LAN environment.
- 16384 bytes or more
Compresses transmission data of 16,384 bytes or more. This option will reduce the amount of data to be compressed, and increase the overall amount of transmission data.
- Specify polling interval
- Select this check box to specify the polling interval.
- The agent receives drawing instructions and sends all the drawing data at the specified interval. Setting a long polling interval will create a time lag between the display shown on the controller and the actual screen on the agent, but effectively reduces the overall size of transmission data. You can select one of the following 6 polling intervals. The default is 100 milliseconds.
- Click Description to view the description on how to specify the polling interval.
- 50 milliseconds
Increases the amount of transmission data.
- 100 milliseconds
Recommended for the LAN environment.
- 300 milliseconds
Effective in the LAN environment.
- 1000 milliseconds
Recommended for the WAN environment.
- 3000 milliseconds
Effective in the WAN environment.
- 5000 milliseconds
Reduces the amount of transmission data, but delays the drawing process on the controller.
