4.3.6 Manipulating agent files

When you manipulate agent files, you can display the agent screen and can also use the File Transfer window.

When you open an agent file from the File Transfer window, the file is transferred from the agent to the controller. That is, if you open an agent file from the File Transfer window, you are opening a copy of the file that is received in the controller. So, editing the file will not affect agent users. The file is received by the folder specified by an option in the File Transfer window. For details about setting the folder to receive the file, see 4.3.9(3) File page.

If you open files with the same name from multiple agents, the controller receives the files in the order you open them. Each time the controller receives a file, the controller overwrites the file received the last time. As a consequence, the file received the last time will be opened.

Organization of this subsection
(1) Editing agent files
(2) Transfer and delete files

(1) Editing agent files

To edit an agent file from the File Transfer window:

  1. In the File Transfer window select an agent file. Then choose File and then Open.
The controller receives the selected file. When the transfer finishes, the file transfer list window that displays the received files is displayed, and then the files in the list are opened. For details of the file transfer list window, see (2) Transfer and delete files.
  2. Edit the file.
  3. After editing is complete, close the file.
The file is automatically transferred from the controller to the original location on the agent and the original file is overwritten. After the transfer, the file is deleted from the controller.

The above processing is based on the default settings in the Transfer Options dialog box. If you want to transfer the file under a certain condition or leave the file on the controller rather than automatically transferring the file and deleting the file on the controller, change the settings on the File page in the Transfer Options dialog box. For further information, see 4.3.9(3) File page.

If the controller is not configured for automatic file transfer and deletion, the file on the controller will remain in place when the file is closed. For details on manually transferring and deleting files remaining in the controller, see (2) Transfer and delete files.

(2) Transfer and delete files

If you opened an agent file from the File Transfer window, that file is saved in the controller. If the file transfer and deletion are not auto-processed, the file will remain in the controller even if you close it.

By using the file transfer list window, you can confirm files which remain in the controller. From this window, you can transfer files remaining in the controller to the agent, and you can delete them from the controller.

To display the file transfer list window and manually transfer and delete files:

  1. From the File Transfer window, select the item (host or folder) of the agent to be checked, choose View, and then File Transfer List.
The file transfer list window appears, so you can confirm the files that remain in the controller. If you have not opened any file from the selected agent, the file transfer list window displays nothing.
The following is the file transfer list window.

    Folder
Displays the path of the controller where the file opened in the agent is saved.
    Status
Displays the status of the file.
    Size
Displays the size of the opened file.
    Modified
Displays the last modified date of the file.
    Source location
Displays the path of the file in the agent.
For details on the file transfer list window menus, see A.2 File Transfer window menus.
  2. In the file transfer list window, choose Edit, and then Transfer Files or Delete after Transfer.
The edited file is transferred to the original location on the agent. If you choose Transfer Files, the operation that is performed is similar to copying in that the file remains on the controller. Choosing Delete after Transfer is similar to moving in that the file is deleted from the controller.

To delete the file from the controller, from the File menu of the file transfer list window, choose the Delete menu. A dialog box appears and indicates the deletion status, while the files in the controller are deleted.
