4.3.9 Configuring the file transmission options

To improve the efficiency of File Transfer window operations, we recommend that you configure options in the Transfer Options dialog box. From the Other menu, choose Option to display this dialog box. After setting these options, click the Save button to save the specified values as the new default values. If you click Update, the settings are only effective during the current session of Remote Control Manager.

The Transfer Options dialog box and its setup items are shown below.

(4) Logging page

(1) View page

The View page allows you to configure options related to the view of the File Transfer window.

Figure 4-33 View page

[Figure]

File type
Configure this option if you want to restrict the kinds of files to be shown on the File Transfer window. You may use up to 225 characters, with no restrictions on characters to be used. Note that the asterisk (*) is the only character which can be used as the wild card. The default setting is *.* (meaning all files).

Icon
Display document files as application icons.
This check box specifies whether files are represented in the list view by application icons or by icons specific to file transmission. By default, this check box is selected, so that the files are represented by application icons.

Status box
You can configure whether or not the system should automatically close the Progress of File Transfer dialog box, shown during file transmission, and the Progress of File Deletion dialog box, shown during file deletion. Both check boxes are selected by default (meaning the dialog boxes will be closed automatically).
Status box disappears when transfer is completed.
Select this check box to close the Status box automatically upon completion of file transmission.
Status box disappears when deletion is completed.
Select this check box to close the Status box automatically upon completion of file deletion.

File transfer List
The file transfer list closes when there is no entry.
Select this check box if you want the file transfer list window to be closed automatically when all the files that you opened from the file transfer list window are deleted (that is, when agent files are deleted from the controller). If this check box is cleared, the file transfer list window remains open. By default, this check box is selected.

(2) Transfer page

The Transfer page allows you to configure options related to file transmission methods.

Figure 4-34 Transfer page

[Figure]

Transfer options
Configure data compression. This option can be also set up in the File Transfer page of the Properties dialog box from the Remote Control window. If the two pages have different settings, the ones saved most recently will take effect.
Compress the data to transfer.
Select this check box to compress all transmission data. Compressing the data will reduce the time required for transmission. By default, the Compress the data to transfer option is selected. The table below lists the standard compression rates for transmission data.

Table 4-3 Transmission data compression ratio

Type of transmission data Compression rate
100 megabytes of text data About 1%
145 megabytes of program data (for Microsoft Office 95) About 47%
Encrypt the data to transfer.
Select this check box to encrypt data to be transferred. If the file transfer destination is an agent whose version is 06-51 or earlier, you cannot use the encryption function.
  • Display a warning message if data is not encrypted.
Select this check box to display a warning message when the agent cannot encrypt data (the agent version is 06-51 or earlier). If you select this check box, a warning message stating that data cannot be encrypted will be displayed when connection is established for file transfer and when file transfer is performed.

Work folder
Specify the folder for temporarily storing files being transferred within an agent or from an agent to another agent.

Destination folder
Set the default destination folder for customized transfer. No folder is specified by default.

(3) File page

From the File page, you can specify the behavior when opening or closing agent files.

Figure 4-35 File page

[Figure]

Opening files on the agent
Specifies the folder in the controller for saving agent files which are opened. For the folder name, use up to 260 characters except for slashes (/), asterisks (*), question marks (?), double quotation marks ("), less-than symbols (<), greater-than symbols (>) and vertical bars (|).
Show the list of opened files for confirmation.
Select this check box if you want to view a list of files which are opened from the agent. If this check box is selected, the file transfer list window appears just as you opened a file. By default, this check box is selected.

Closing files on the agent
Specifies actions to be triggered when the files are closed.
Delete local copy on the controller
Select this check box if you want files in the controller to be deleted. By default, this check box is selected. If you clear this check box, the file is kept in the controller when closing the file.
  • Show progress in the dialog box during deletion
Select this check box if you want to view the Progress of File Deletion dialog box when the files in the controller are deleted. If this check box is cleared, the Progress of File Deletion dialog box is not displayed when the files are deleted. By default, this check box is selected.
Overwrite the file on the agent with the local copy on the controller
Select this check box if you want to restore files stored in the controller back to the agent. By default, this check box is selected. You can select either of the following transmission methods:
  • Transfer only modified files to the agent
Transfers only the files edited in the controller. This option is selected by default.
  • Transfer all files to the agent
Restores all the files stored in the controller back to the agent.
These two options determine actions to be triggered when the files are closed. The table below shows the various operations depending on the combination of options.

Table 4-4 How the action subsequent to the closing of the file depends on the combination of options

Overwrite the file on the agent with the local copy on the controller Delete local copy on the controller Actions to be triggered when the files are closed
Y Y The files are sent. After that, the corresponding files are deleted from the controller.
Y N The files are sent. The files also remain in the controller.
N Y The files are deleted.
N N The files are neither sent nor deleted.

Legend:
Y: The check box is selected
N: The check box is cleared

(4) Logging page

In the Logging page, specify the output of file access logs, which log the file operations performed in the File Transfer window.

For details about output logs, see K.2 File access logs.

Figure 4-36 Logging page

[Figure]

Output logs
Select this check box when you want to output logs about file accesses that used the File Transfer window. By default, the check box is not selected.

Log all data items
Select this option to output all logging items that can be selected in Select the items to log. This is selected by default.

  • Do not output warning information
Select this check box to prevent warning information from being output to the log.
  • Do not output error information
Select this check box to prevent error information from being output to the log.

Print method
Set the format for the log output, and the amount of information that can be output to file access logs.
