5.3.1 Connecting to the controller

To issue one or more connection requests from an agent to one or more controllers, first specify a connection method using the Requester Wizard. Then, double-click the icon created by the Requester Wizard to issue one or more connection requests to the desired connector(s).

The procedures for setting the connection method in the Requester Wizard vary depending on the connection method you specify: using a LAN or a dial-up connection, or importing a settings file.

The Requester Wizard setting procedure is as follows:

(1) Start the Requester Wizard

Choose the Requester Wizard from the JP1_Remote Control Agent or JP1/Software Distribution program folder to start the Requester Wizard and display the Remote Control - Requester Wizard dialog box.

(2) Select a connection method or import a settings file

Select a method for connecting to the controller, or import an existing settings file.

Connect by using a LAN.
Select this check box to establish direct connection without using a telephone line or modem. By default, this check box is selected.
Select Connect by using a LAN and click Next. When the dialog box for setting the request destination is displayed, proceed to (5) Specify the request destinations.

Connect by using a telephone and modem.
Select this check box to use dial-up connection. By default, this check box is cleared. If no dial-up environment is available, this check box is inactive.
Select Connect by using a telephone and modem and click Next. When the dialog box for setting the dial-up connection is displayed, proceed to (3) Specify a dial-up connection point.

Import
Click this button to import a previously created settings file.
Clicking this button displays the Import Settings Information dialog box.

Specify a settings file and then click the Open button to start the import. When the import has finished and the Requester Wizard Complete window is displayed, proceed to (8) Complete the setup or export the settings.
Note that when you import a settings file, the connection method of the settings file is used regardless of the selection status of the page.

(3) Specify a dial-up connection point

Specify a dial-up connection point.

Connection points
Lists all entries registered in the telephone book that is currently used. Select one connection point. The Next button remains inactive until you select a connection point.

Add
Adds a new connection point.

Edit
You can edit the settings of the connection point selected from the Connection points list.

Delete
Deletes the connection point selected from the Connection points list.

Clicking the Next button displays the dialog box for specifying the dial-up user.

(4) Specify the dial-up user

Specify the user name, password, and domain name used for the dial-up connection.

User name
Specify the user name to be used for dial-up connection. This specification is mandatory.

Password
Specify the password to be used for dial-up connection.

Domain
Specify the domain name to be used for dial-up connection.

Clicking the Next button displays the dialog box for specifying the request destination.

(5) Specify the request destinations

Specify the address and port number of the controller.

Address
Specify the host name or IP address that identifies the connection request destination controller. This specification is mandatory. Up to 260 previously specified addresses are recorded on the pull-down list. You can also select one of these addresses from the pull-down list.

Port number
Specify a port number for the connection request destination controller as an integer from 0 to 65535. The default port number is 30006. Up to 260 previously specified port numbers are recorded on the pull-down list. You can also select one of these port numbers from the pull-down list.

Request to multiple controllers
Select this check box for simultaneous connections to multiple instances of Remote Control Manager (controllers). Also, click the Settings button to display the Settings dialog box, and then set the multiple managers as request destinations. For details on the Settings dialog box, see (a) Setup for requests to multiple controllers.

Clicking the Next button displays the dialog box for setting the request time. If the specified port number is beyond the range of allowed values, an error message is displayed. Respecify an acceptable port number, and then click Next.

When simultaneously issuing requests to multiple controllers, go to the Settings dialog box and specify:

Controller list
This lists the address, port number, and comments of each configured controller.

Add
Click this button to add a controller where you want to issue a connection request. Clicking this button displays the Setting of Address and Port Number dialog box.

Specify the address, port number, and comments of the controller to be added. You must specify the address and port number.
Address
Specify the host name or IP address that identifies the connection request destination controller. The address must be within 260 characters and must not include spaces.
Port number
Specify a port number for the connection request destination controller as an integer from 0 to 65535.
Comment
Enter comments about the controller that is to be the destination of the connection request.

Edit
Use this button to edit the settings of the connection request destination selected on the Controller list.

Delete
Use this button to delete the connection request destination selected from the Controller list.

Shift Upward
Move the selected connection request destination up one line in the Controller list.

Shift Downward
Move the selected connection request destination down one line in the Controller list.

Request in a random order
Select this check box if you want to issue connection requests to the specified destinations in random order. If this check box is cleared, connection requests are issued in the order in which the destinations are listed in the Controller list. This check box is selected by default.

(6) Specify the request time

Set the request time and the settings related to automatic cancellation of the connection request.

Request time
The connection request can be canceled automatically if the controller does not respond to the request within the request time specified here. Specify in the Request time text box the number of seconds that can pass until the connection request is canceled. Specify an integer from 0 to 9,999. If you specify 0, the connection request will not be canceled and will remain in effect until the controller responds. The default value is 0.

Exclude responses to requests
This setting is used in the situation where connection requests were issued to multiple Remote Control Managers and one of the connection requests was fulfilled: i.e., the agent is connected to one of the managers. Select this check box if you want to cancel any other connection request automatically. This check box is selected by default.

Clicking the Next button displays the dialog box for specifying the notification message.

(7) Specify a notification message

Specify the notification message to be sent to the controller.

Message
Enter a message of 260 or fewer characters to be sent to the controller together with the connection request.

Enter a message when requesting
Select this check box to enter a message to the controller each time you issue a connection request to the controller. By default, this check box is not selected.
If you select this check box, the Enter Message dialog box is displayed when you click the Remote Control Requester icon on the desktop, so that you can enter a message.

Click the Next button to display the dialog box to finish the Requester Wizard.

Message
Enter up to 260 characters for the message to be sent to the controller. When the Enter Message dialog box opens, it displays the message entered in the Message area of the Requester Wizard by default.

(8) Complete the setup or export the settings

When you finish the setup in the Requester Wizard, the following dialog box is displayed. From this dialog box, you can execute the connection request, create a shortcut, or export the settings. Select the operation to be executed.

Select here if you want to request immediately.
Select this check box to issue the connection request immediately after setup finishes in the Requester Wizard. By default, this check box is selected.

Select here if you want to create a shortcut. You can execute the requester any time you want by double-clicking the shortcut on the desktop.
Select this check box to create a desktop shortcut for the connection request after setup finishes in the Requester Wizard.
This shortcut is created as a Remote Control Requester icon ([Figure]). Double-clicking this icon issues the connection request specified with the Requester Wizard, to the controller.

Export
Click this button to export the settings you made so far. The settings are exported to a file.
Clicking Export opens the Export Settings Information dialog box.

To save the settings, specify the location, file name, and file type.
The next time the wizard is launched, the directory that you specified last is displayed as the default.
Clicking Save begins exporting the settings to the specified file.
When exporting finishes, you will return to the Requester Wizard Complete window.

After you click the Finish button on the Requester Wizard Complete window, you can either issue a connection request or create a shortcut.

If the connection request is correctly executed (connection to the controller is successful), the Requester Wizard ends. The Requester Wizard does not end if the connection request is canceled or if the connection request is not executed correctly.
