4.5.2 Recording agent screen display

You can record information on the screen of an agent that is connected to the controller. This feature allows you to pause, then restart recording when desired. Thus allowing you to bypass unnecessary information. The figure below shows how to record the agent screen display.

    [Figure]

If the location and name of the recording file is already set in the operating environment of the controller, this dialog box is not displayed and the recording of the window information will start immediately. For details on the settings of recording files, see (4) Settings for efficient recording and 3.3.10 Record page.
  2. Setting a recording file.
Specify the location and file name of the recording file. The file extension of the recording file is rcr.
  3. Click the Save button.
Starts recording of the agent window information.
(b) Ending recording
  1. From the File menu, choose Record Screen, and then Stop.
Recording stops. The operations performed so far on the agent are saved in the recording file.

(2) Recording status display

A status icon indicating the recording status is displayed on the status bar. This icon helps you check the recording status. The agent screen display recording status is represented by one of the following three icons.

You can set whether to display the status icons using the Record page in the Properties dialog box. For information on how to display the status icon, see 3.3.10 Record page. Note that the status icon will not be displayed when you are not connected to an agent.

(3) Pause and restart

This feature allows you to pause and restart recording as desired. This function is useful for recording only the necessary screen display.

Pause
In the Remote Control window, open the File menu and choose Record Screen, then Pause. Recording pauses.

Restart
In the Remote Control window, open the File menu and choose Record Screen, then Restart. Recording restarts.

(4) Settings for efficient recording

If you have to select which recording file to use each time you begin recording, the recording efficiency will be low. Therefore, it is advisable to set, in advance, the location and file name for a recording file that will contain records of information displayed on screens of an agent. This eliminates the need to select a recording file each time you start recording. You can also configure the controller to start recording when the agent is connected to the controller. To make this configuration, use the Record page in the Properties dialog box. For further information about the Record page, see 3.3.10 Record page.

(a) Setting up a recording file

If you set up a recording file from the Record page in advance, agent screen display will be automatically saved in the specified recording file. If you specify a fixed recording file name, the recording file will be overwritten with new information each time recording starts. To avoid this, you must reset the recording file each time you start recording.

If you need to manage one individual recording file for each type of record, you can specify variables to represent a recording file name you want to use. If you specify variables for a file name, values will be assigned to each variable to form the appropriate file name when recording starts. You can use the following three variables:

You can combine these variables to form a file name. You can also select one of the three default templates.

Examples of file name specification using variables are provided below. In these examples, it is assumed that the agent name is 10.xxx.xxx.4, the date is April 1, 2003, and the time is 15:05:45. These settings are performed in the Select Recording File dialog box that is displayed from the Recording page.

Selecting from the default templates
From the Files of Type list, select a template for the file name.
  • If you select AgentName.rcr:
    Example: 10.xxx.xxx.4.rcr
  • If you select AgentName Date Time.rcr:
    Example: 10.xxx.xxx.4 04-01-2003 150545.rcr
  • If you select Date Time AgentName.rcr:
    Example: 04-01-2003 150545 10.xxx.xxx.4.rcr

Specifying a file name using variables
Use a variable and directly specify the file name.
  • If you specify $(Agent) $(Date).rcr:
    Example: 10.xxx.xxx.4 04-01-2003.rcr
  • If you specify user-name (nnn)_$(Date).rcr:
    Example: nnn_04-01-2003.rcr
(b) Configuring the setting to starting recording when connection is established

To start recording when the agent is connected, select the Start recording when connected check box.
