4.3.2 Opening and closing the File Transfer window

This subsection describes how to open and/or close the File Transfer window, and how to connect and/or disconnect an agent.

To use the file transmission facility, you need to configure the agent's system to allow file transmission. If you configure the settings to permit file transfer, you can also set file access permissions. You must also assign a port number on the agent side for file transmission. For details on configuring the agent system, see 3.4.6 File transmission settings.

Organization of this subsection
(1) Opening the File Transfer window
(2) Connecting to an agent
(3) Disconnecting from the agent
(4) Closing the File Transfer window

(1) Opening the File Transfer window

There are two ways of opening the File Transfer window. You need to start the File Transfer window after connecting to the agent from the Remote Control window.

(a) Using the button or menu

With the agent screen called into the Remote Control window, choose Transfer File from the Tools menu. This menu is disabled until a connection is established with an agent.

(b) Drag and drop

From the system's Explorer, you can drag and drop a file to any location on the agent's screen called onto the Remote Control window to start the File Transfer window. File transmission starts immediately after the File Transfer window opens.

[Figure]

When using the drag and drop operation to transfer files, you must specify the agent's default folder (its transmission destination folder) in the property settings of Remote Control Manager. If no default folder is specified, dropping a file into the Remote Control window will not initiate file transmission.

Similarly, in the property settings of Remote Control Manager, if you set the configurations so they do not show the File Transfer window, dropping a file into the Remote Control window will immediately initiate file transmission without displaying the File Transfer window.

For details on property settings on file transmission, see 3.3.6 File Transfer page.

(2) Connecting to an agent

To use the File Transfer window for file transmission, you need to be connected to an agent through a port different from the one used for remote control operations. When you take the steps described in (1) Opening the File Transfer window to open the File Transfer window, the window uses a tree view to show the agents, that were connected through the Remote Control window at the time the File Transfer window was opened. This represents a state in which the controller is connected to the agent for file transmission.

Use either of the following procedures to connect to an additional agent that does not appear on the tree view. When doing this, note the following:

(a) Connecting from the address box

You can specify the agent you want to connect to in the address box of the toolbar in the File Transfer window.

The address box lists all the agents currently connected through the Remote Control window in a pull-down list. Simply select the agent you want from the list.

If the address box lists too many agents for you to find the one you want, you can directly enter the agent in the address box. In this case, enter the agent in the address box and press the Enter key. You can use up to 260 characters, with no restriction on the type of characters available. Note that you cannot connect to an agent that has not been connected for remote control purposes.

(b) Connecting from the Remote Control window

You can use a different Remote Control window than the one used to initially open the File Transfer window to re-open the File Transfer window. Use either of the procedures described in (1) Opening the File Transfer window above. From the second time onwards, agents will be added to the File Transfer window (rather than opening multiple File Transfer windows).

(3) Disconnecting from the agent

From the File menu, choose Disconnect to disconnect the file transmission connection with the agent. If files are being transferred or deleted at the time of disconnection, the process will be canceled. When the agent is logged off, the connection for file transfer is also disconnected.

Severing the file transmission connection will not sever the remote control connection; but, severing the remote control connection will sever the file transmission connection automatically. Similarly, when the remote control mode is changed to view, the file transmission connection with the relevant agent will be severed. In this case, if files are being transferred or deleted, a dialog box appears, asking whether you want to cancel the process.

(4) Closing the File Transfer window

From the File menu, choose End to exit the File Transfer window. Closing the File Transfer window will automatically sever all file transmission connections. If files are being transferred or deleted at the time of exiting, the process will be canceled.
