4.1.5 Operation environment which requires tuning while connecting with an agent

When connecting with an agent, some network environments may require tuning of the transmission data size and polling interval. Make the necessary adjustments in the Higher Level Settings dialog box shown below.

In the Properties dialog box, in the Optimize Transaction page, click the Higher Level Settings button to display the Higher Level Settings dialog box.

Organization of this subsection
(1) Specifying the compression threshold for transmission data
(2) Specifying the polling interval

(1) Specifying the compression threshold for transmission data

You can specify the compression threshold for transmission data with the agent. Compressing data at or above a certain size will reduce the overall amount of transmission data, thus reducing the load on the network. Note, however, that compressing too much data may increase the load on the CPU for compression and extraction operations, and delay the overall process. Define an appropriate value in consideration of the machine performance and network environment.

The default setting is the value recommended for the LAN environment. In the WAN environment, specify the value recommended for WAN (that is, 512 or more bytes).

(2) Specifying the polling interval

You can specify the polling interval for the controller to acquire the agent's screen data (that is, the interval for the agent to acquire drawing instructions).

The agent obtains drawing instructions at the specified interval and transfers all the instructions to the controller in a batch. When the system is configured to compress transmission data, the agent compresses data in a batch. Setting too long an interval will cause a time lag in the drawing of the agent's screen on the controller, but allows the system to batch-process a greater number of drawing instructions, effectively reducing the amount of transmission data.

The default setting is the value recommended for the LAN environment. In the WAN environment, specify the value recommended for WAN (that is, 1000 milliseconds).
