4.1.3 Disconnecting an agent

You can disconnect an agent either manually or automatically. Both disconnection methods are detailed below. This subsection also explains the procedure for reconnecting a previously disconnected agent.

When the automatic dialing facility is used, the dialup connection will be severed automatically when the agent is disconnected. However, you may configure the property settings so that the dialup connection is severed upon termination of Remote Control Manager (when closing the Remote Control window).

Organization of this subsection
(1) Automatic disconnection
(2) Manual disconnection
(3) Reconnection

(1) Automatic disconnection

Automatic disconnection automatically disconnects an agent when no operation is made on the agent for a certain period of time. It also disconnects an agent automatically when the Remote Control window is inactive for a certain period of time.

You can set the timing or period of inactivity time for disconnection in the Properties dialog box. From the Tools menu of the Remote Control window, choose Properties to open the Properties dialog box. Then, in the Connection page, select the Disconnect from the agent automatically check box. You can select one of the following three timings:

When the time-out elapsed
Disconnects the agent after a specified period of time has elapsed since connection was established.

If the agent is not manipulated during the time-out
Disconnects the agent when the agent non-operation state continues for a specified period of time (that is, when no data is sent).

If the Remote Control window is inactive during the time-out
Disconnects the agent when the Remote Control Manager window has remained in the inactive state for a specified period of time, or when a specified period of time elapses after the Remote Control Manager window was iconified.

(2) Manual disconnection

From the File menu, choose Disconnect to manually disconnect an agent. When the controller is connected with more than one agent, with the corresponding number of Remote Control Managers (Remote Control windows) open, this operation will only disconnect the agent for the window where you performed the operation.

(3) Reconnection

Disconnect an agent, and then, from the File menu, choose Reconnect to reconnect the previously connected agent. However, an attempt to reconnect to the agent will fail if it is configured so that its Remote Control Agent terminates automatically upon disconnection.
