6.3 Setting the network environment

JP1/Software Distribution Client uses the file transfer server facility that is automatically started at the system startup to control the following file transfer:

The file transfer server facility runs on an end workstation or relay system and starts automatically at system startup.

To use the file transfer server facility, you must set the port number and user ID in all the UNIX machines running JP1/Software Distribution Client. If you want to use JP1/Software Distribution Manager or JP1/Software Distribution Client as the managing server, you must also assign a port number to the file transfer server facility of each managing server. The following describes how to perform the following settings that are required in each UNIX machine that runs JP1/Software Distribution Client:

See 6.3.7 Examples of operating environment setup for examples for setting the operating environment of each UNIX machine.

To avoid being disconnected when the network is busy, you can enter a transmission sleep time to apply during file transfer. In the settings file, set the sleep time in FileTransferSleepTime and the timing for initiating the sleep time in FileTransferSleepInterval. For details about the setting method, see 6.4.2 Syntax of the relay system settings file or 6.4.5 Syntax of the settings file for the distributor tools.
