Job Management Partner 1/Software Distribution Client Description and User's Guide
Specify the user ID in the following format in the /etc/passwd file. Specify the same user ID for all UNIX machines that use JP1/Software Distribution Client.
netmdms:password:user-ID:0::home-directory:/bin/sh
- netmdms
- Usually, a superuser (root) runs JP1/Software Distribution. However, the user name changes to netmdms when the r-commands for the operating system are executed.
- The r-commands for the operating system are valid when the upper-level or lower-level system is a workstation, which requires netmdms designation.
- Use the r-commands rsh (or remsh) and rcp during client startup and file transfer. You can select protocol at client startup. Use rsh if startup fails regardless of whether TCP or UDP are used.
- password
- In password, specify the password. For details on how to specify a password, see the manual of your operating system.
- To specify a password for a user ID having netmdms as the user name, specify the host name described below in /NETMRDS/buff/.rhosts (/etc/opt/NETMDMW/buff/.rhosts for HP-UX) of the relay system or end workstation.
- For a relay system directly connected to the managing server, specify:
- The host name of the local UNIX machine
- The host names of the distribution-destination systems connected to the local UNIX machine
- The host names of the managing server
- For a relay system connected to a relay system, specify:
- The host name of the local UNIX machine
- The host name of the upper-level relay system
- The host names of the distribution-destination systems subordinate to the local UNIX machine
- For an end workstation
- Specify the host name of the local UNIX machine. If the managing server is JP1/Software Distribution Manager (UNIX or Windows version), also specify the host name of the managing server.
- user-ID ~ <alphanumerics> (1 to 8 digits)
- Specify a user ID that is unique within the network. You cannot specify 0 as the user ID.
- home-directory
- Specify the directory listed below. Note that since the directory is created when the software product is installed, there is no need to create a directory when specifying a user ID.
- For systems other than HP-UX: /NETMRDS/buff
- For HP-UX: etc/opt/NETMDMW/buff
