Job Management Partner 1/Software Distribution Client Description and User's Guide
To use a UNIX or Windows machine as the managing server, you need to assign port numbers to the managing server's file transfer server facility. You must specify port numbers at an end workstation (when a UNIX managing server is connected) and in the relay system.
- Organization of this subsection
- (1) When the machine is used as the managing server or a relay system
- (2) When the machine is used as an end workstation
- (3) When the machine is used as a client workstation
- (4) When the machine is connected to a managing server that uses the Multi-Software Distribution function
(1) When the machine is used as the managing server or a relay system
Specify port numbers for the file transfer server facility in the /etc/services file.
The following shows the syntax of the /etc/services file.
[Netmdm1port-number/tcp] [Netmdmw1port-number/tcp] [Netmdmclt1port-number/udp] [Netmdmclt1port-number/tcp]
- port-number ~ <unsigned integer>
- Specifies the port number of JP1/Software Distribution Client, which uses netmdm, netmdmw, or netmdmclt as its service name. For netmdmclt, specify either tcp or udp, whichever one matches the value of the ClientActionProtocol attribute in the settings file.
- The port number must be unique within the network. You must specify the same port number for the managing server, relay systems and distribution-destination systems.
- For details on the port numbers you can specify, see the documentation for the operating system you are using.
- The following shows the defaults when the port number is not specified.
- netmdm: 30000
- netmdmw: 30001
- netmdmclt: 30002
(2) When the machine is used as an end workstation
Specify port numbers for the file transfer server facility in the /etc/services file. Specify the same port numbers as were specified for JP1/Software Distribution Manager. The following shows the syntax of the /etc/services file.
[0netmdm1port-number/tcp] [0netmdmw1port-number/tcp] [0netmdmclt1port-number/udp] [0netmdmclt1port-number/tcp]
- port-number ~ <unsigned integer>((5001-65535))
- Specifies a port number. For the port number, specify a number that is unique within the network system.
- netmdmw port-number/tcp
- Specifies a port number when communication is to take place inside the end workstation.
- netmdmclt port-number/udp
- Specify this when the UDP protocol is to be used as the communication protocol of the JP1/Software Distribution system.
- netmdmclt port-number/tcp
- Specify this when the TCP protocol is to be used as the communication protocol of the JP1/Software Distribution system.
- This specification is required when the system connects to the managing server via a firewall. If this specification is omitted, port number 30002 is assumed.
- Additionally, when the TCP protocol is used, you must specify TCP in ClientActionProtocol of the managing server settings file. Furthermore, when the TCP protocol is used, connection can be retried even if it fails at client startup. You specify the retry count and retry interval in ClientActionRetryCount and ClientActionRetryInterval of the end workstation settings file.
(3) When the machine is used as a client workstation
Specify port numbers for the file transfer server facility in the /etc/services file. Specify the same port numbers as were specified for JP1/Software Distribution Client (relay system). The syntax of the /etc/services file is described below.
[0netmdm1port-number/tcp] [0netmdmclt1port-number/udp] [0netmdmclt1port-number/tcp]
- port-number ~ <unsigned integer>((5001-65535))
- Specifies a port number for the relay system's file transfer server facility. For the port number, specify a number that is unique within the network system.
- netmdmclt port-number/udp
- Specify this when the UDP protocol is to be used as the client startup protocol.
- netmdmclt port-number/tcp
- Specify this when the TCP protocol is to be used as the client startup protocol. This specification is required when the system connects to the relay system via a firewall. If this specification is omitted, port number 30002 is assumed.
- When the TCP protocol is used, you must specify TCP in ClientActionProtocol of the relay system settings file. Furthermore, when the TCP protocol is used, connection can be retried even if it fails at the client startup. You specify the retry count and retry interval in ClientActionRetryCount and ClientActionRetryInterval of the client workstation settings file.
(4) When the machine is connected to a managing server that uses the Multi-Software Distribution function
Specify port numbers for the file transfer server facility in the /etc/services file. Specify the port numbers for the end workstation (only for the UNIX version of JP1/Software Distribution) and the relay system. The syntax of the /etc/services file is described below.
[netmdm11port-number/tcp] [netmdm21port-number/tcp]
- port-number ~ <unsigned integer>((5001-65535))
- Specify a port number that uses netmdmN as the service name. netmdm is fixed; and for N, which is the seventh character after the leading character, specify a value between 1 and 8.
- For the port number, specify a number that is unique within the network system.
