11.1.3 Client menu

In a system in which client components have been installed, the following program folders are created in the Start menu:

This section explains the functions of these program folders and menus.

Organization of this subsection
(1) Software Distribution Client or Software Distribution Manager folder
(2) Software Distribution Client Startup

(1) Software Distribution Client or Software Distribution Manager folder

This program folder contains menus used when you execute the functions of JP1/Software Distribution. The menus contained in this program folder are explained as follows.

(a) Menus used by client facilities

Of the menus contained in the Software Distribution Client or Software Distribution Manager folder, those that are used by client facilities are explained as follows.

(b) Menus used by facilities other than client facilities

Of the menus contained in the Software Distribution Client or Software Distribution Manager folder, those that are used by facilities other than client facilities are explained as follows.

(2) Software Distribution Client Startup

The NETM_DM_P folder is used to delay the timing of the startup program to be started so that it is not executed at the same time as remote installation managed by JP1/Software Distribution.

Programs that are registered in the Startup group for Windows start at the same time that Windows starts. Therefore, these programs cannot be upgraded using the Install when system starts option. For this reason, any startup programs that are likely to be upgraded on a remote installation basis should be moved to the Software Distribution Client Startup program folder.

However, there are applications, such as the Microsoft Office shortcut bar, for which the uninstallation process fails if the shortcut is moved to the Software Distribution Client Startup program folder. For such applications, you have the option of not moving the shortcut to the Software Distribution Client Startup program folder.

For details about how to relocate a startup program, see 11.2.2 Preparing to install software during system startup.
