11.2.1 Registering into an ID group

To be able to receive jobs from the managing server, a client system must be registered into a group called an ID group. To register into an ID group, choose Start and then Register in ID Group. When the Register in ID Group dialog box appears, you can perform registration.

[Figure]

You can perform the ID registration process while the client is connected to the relay managing the ID, which is a higher system that manages IDs. The higher server specified on the Connection Destination page (for JP1/Software Distribution Client) corresponds to this system. The Register in ID Group dialog box shows the name of this server.

Even when the client is not connected to the relay managing the ID, you can still register the client system into an ID group or place the process for canceling registration into an ID group in wait status. If registration processing is performed while the client is not connected to the relay managing the ID, the actual registration or registration cancellation is reported to the relay managing the ID when the client becomes available for connection, the client has logged on, or the Register in ID Group icon is chosen. This allows you to register your client into an ID group even during the pre-installation or system construction preparation stage. For purposes of remote installation, the client is connected to the relay managing the ID by means of a different function, in which case the client is treated in the same way as when it is not connected to the relay managing the ID.

This section explains how to use the Register in ID Group dialog box for each type of connection to the relay managing the ID.

Organization of this subsection
(1) Registering into an ID group while connected to the relay managing the ID
(2) Registering a client into an ID group when the client is not connected to the relay managing the ID
(3) Notes on registering a client into an ID group

(1) Registering into an ID group while connected to the relay managing the ID

When the client is connected to the relay managing the ID (when Server Connection in the Register in ID Group dialog box is specified as Connected), you can perform the following operations:

(a) Registering a client into an ID group

To register a client into an ID group:

  1. Select an ID group from the List of available ID groups.
The selected ID group is displayed in reverse video. Only one ID group can be selected.
  2. Choose >.
If the selected ID group does not require a password, it moves to the List of selected ID groups, and registration of the client into the ID group is completed.
If the ID group requires a password, the Confirm Registration dialog box appears.
  3. Enter the correct password and choose OK.
Enter the ID group's password, assigned by the system administrator (up to 14 alphanumeric characters). If the entered password is valid, the selected ID group moves to the List of selected ID groups, and registration of the client into the ID group is completed.
(b) Canceling registration of a client

This section shows how to cancel registration of a client from an ID group.

To cancel registration of a client from an ID group:

  1. Select the ID group from the List of selected ID groups.
The selected ID group is displayed in reverse video. More than one ID group can be selected.
  2. Choose <.
A dialog box requesting confirmation of removal of the client from the ID group (or ID groups) appears.
Choosing OK causes the selected ID group(s) to move to the List of available ID groups, and cancellation is completed.

(2) Registering a client into an ID group when the client is not connected to the relay managing the ID

When the client is not connected to the relay managing the ID (when Server Connection in the Register in ID Group dialog box is specified as Disconnected), you can perform the following operations:

(a) Reserving registration of a client into an ID group

This operation sets up registration of the client into an ID group managed by the server when the client becomes connected to the relay managing the ID.

To reserve registration of a client into an ID group:

  1. In Enter an ID group, enter the ID group to be registered into.
Specify a maximum of 32 characters for the ID group name. None of the following characters or spaces can be specified. In addition, an ID group name with the prefix network ID cannot be used.
    \ / * : " ' | ! . < > ? %
  2. Choose >.
The Confirm Registration dialog box for confirming the password appears. If the ID group does not require a password for ID group registration, choose OK without entering anything in Password. The reservation of registration into the ID group is completed.
  3. Enter a password.
If the ID group requires a password, enter the password assigned by the system administrator, and then choose OK. The reservation of registration into the ID group is completed. The ID groups that are reserved for registration are displayed in the List of selected ID groups. The comment Now registering in ID groups appears, and the background turns yellow.
The reserved settings in the Register in ID Group dialog box are reported to the relay managing the ID when the client logs on for the first time in an environment that permits client communications with the relay managing the ID or when the Register in ID Group icon is chosen.
If an error is reported, you can revise the ID group information and re-register the client.
(b) Reserving cancellation of client registration from an ID group

This operation sets up cancellation of registration of a client from an ID group that is managed by the server when the client becomes connected to the relay managing the ID.

To reserve cancellation of client registration from an ID group:

The selected ID group is displayed in reverse video. More than one ID group can be selected.
  2. Choose >.
A dialog box requesting confirmation of removal of the client from the ID group or groups appears.

(e) Revising ID information

This section explains how to revise ID information in the Register in ID Group dialog box.

If the Register in ID Group dialog box displays an error, you can select Retry to revise the ID information as described below. Choosing OK causes the system to cancel the registration for the error-generating ID and terminate processing.

To revise ID information:

  1. Select the ID group from the List of selected ID groups.
Select the ID group for which ID information is to be revised. ID groups that are shown as Now registering in ID groups (yellow background) and ID groups that produced a registration error (red background) can be revised.
