(1) Installation notes
Note the items listed below when installing Asset Information Manager. To upgrade Asset Information Manager to a newer version, see E.1(3) Installing Asset Information Manager by overwriting an older version.
- Because Linkage with WSUS component is shared with JP1/Software Distribution, it cannot be installed on a machine on which the WSUS Linkage Component of JP1/Software Distribution Manager is installed. Before installing Linkage with WSUS component of Asset Information Manager, you must first uninstall WSUS Linkage Component of JP1/Software Distribution.
- To add or delete components, select Modify from the maintenance window. When the component that has already been installed is reinstalled, select Repair from the maintenance window. When the same version is reinstalled by Modify, currently installed component is not installed.
- The following settings cannot be changed during reinstallation:
- Program folders
- Virtual directory of the asset management server
- Use of SSL
- When adding or deleting a component, if you cancel installation by clicking the Cancel button during installation, you must re-install Asset Information Manager.
- If you overwrite the asset management server, Startup type for Asset Information Synchronous Service is set to Manual. Change it to Automatic as needed.
- If you are performing a remote installation of Asset Information Manager with JP1/Software Distribution, and it is a new installation, Microsoft SQL Server is assumed for the asset management database and for the JP1/Software Distribution database for acquiring inventory information. If Asset Information Manager has already been installed, the existing settings are used during installation.
- If you choose Embedded RDB as the asset management database, the tmp folder is created directly under the installation drive. The tmp folder is required in order to use Embedded RDB; so do not delete this folder.
- If Embedded RDB is selected for the asset management database, you must be careful when specifying the drive name or installation folder when restoring the database backup following installation. If you specify an incorrect name or folder, you cannot restore the backup. To use the backed-up database on another machine, install it using the same path that was used for acquiring the backup.
- When Asset Information Manager is installed in Windows XP Professional SP2, Windows Firewall displays a security-warning message. When a warning message is displayed, take an appropriate measure such as releasing the block.
- If restart of the computer is required, a dialog box requesting a restart appears. You should restart the computer.
- Asset Information Manager cannot be installed on a computer on which software that requires the 64-bit Microsoft Internet Information Service has been installed.
The following work should be completed prior to installing Asset Information Manager:
When Asset Information Manager is installed in a 64-bit OS, settings for running 32-bit applications are required. For details about how to specify the settings, see F(1) Notes on installing Asset Information Manager in a 64-bit OS.
- Log on to Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP Professional, or Windows 2000 as a user with administrator permissions.
- Start the Task Scheduler service.
To register the tasks provided by Asset Information Manager in Windows Task Scheduler, the Task Scheduler task must be active.
- Stop services, commands, and tasks.
When installing the Asset management server component, or to change to a setting that does not install the Asset management server component by selecting Modify in the maintenance window, you must stop all Asset Information Manager services.
Before you perform a new installation of Asset Information Manager services, stop World Wide Web Publishing Service or World Wide Web Publishing.
Before you perform an overwrite installation of Asset Information Manager, stop the following services in the order indicated below:
- World Wide Web Publishing Service or World Wide Web Publishing
- Asset Information Synchronous Service, Asset Information Manager commands, and tasks
- JP1/Client Security Control - Manager (when JP1/CSC is linked)
To run Asset Information Manager following an overwrite installation, start the services in the reverse order of the order in which they were stopped.
If a connection pool is set in an ODBC data source, the connected state continues after an Asset Information Manager job is stopped until the timeout time set in the connection pool expires. Therefore, wait for the connected state to be released before installing Asset Information Manager.
- When using Microsoft Internet Information Services version 7.0 or 7.5, Hitachi recommends that you install the required role services before installing Asset Information Manager so that the virtual directory is automatically generated. The virtual directory is not created automatically if the required role services are installed after Asset Information Manager has been installed. For details about how to install role services, see 5.8.2(1) Installing the role services.
