(1) Installing the prerequisite programs required for the asset management server
- Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP Professional, or Windows 2000
For details about how to install Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP Professional, and Windows 2000, see the applicable installation manual and Help.
- Microsoft Internet Information Services
For details about how to install Microsoft Internet Information Services, see the Windows documentation.
- Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP)
Install this program when the execution results of the tasks registered in Windows Task Scheduler are to be sent to the asset manager via email or when the next worker is to be notified via email when an Item has been set. For details about how to install Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP), see the Windows documentation.
- Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle
Install this program when using Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle for the asset management database. For details about how to install Microsoft SQL Server, see the Microsoft SQL Server documentation. For details about how to install Oracle, see the Oracle documentation.
If you are running the asset management server and the asset management database server on different machines, install the following program on the asset management server:
- For Microsoft SQL Server
ODBC driver (3.70.8.20 or later)
- For Oracle
Oracle client
You should note the following about setting up a Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle environment:
Setting up a Microsoft SQL Server environment
- In the environment setup, select Mixed Mode for the authentication mode.
- In the environment setup, set the same protocol for both server and client.
- During custom installation of Microsoft SQL Server (or during installation of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or 2005), you can specify the sorting order. When the sorting order is set to Binary, asset information is retrieved and registered, with uppercase and lowercase letters differentiated.
For Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Microsoft SQL Server 2005, and Microsoft SQL Server 2000, this setting also is valid when inventory information is being acquired from JP1/Software Distribution. Therefore, you can accurately assign installed software names, for example.
When setting a sorting order in Microsoft SQL Server 7.0, also change opt.ini stored in Asset-Information-Manager-installation-folder\env. From the sentence that begins with DB=in opt.ini, delete the comment character (semicolon) from the applicable sorting order and make the non-applicable sorting order into a comment by adding a semicolon.
Setting up an Oracle environment
Set up the same protocol for both server and client. Also, set Database Character Set to WE8MSWIN1252.
(2) Installing the prerequisite programs for the client
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SP1 or later, Windows Internet Explorer 7, Windows Internet Explorer 8, or Windows Internet Explorer 9
For details about how to install the Web browser to be used, see the instructions for installing Microsoft Internet Explorer.
