7.3.1 About installation types of Application Server for Developers

You can use the following types of installation to install Application Server for Developers: new installation, multiple installations, additional installation, and overwrite installation.

The types of installation that you can use to install Application Server for Developers are as follows:

New installation

In this type of installation, you install Application Server for Developers on a computer on which Application Server or Application Server for Developers has not been installed. You can use either of the following installation options to select the programs that you want to install: Standard or Custom.

Multiple installations

In this type of installation, you install Application Server for Developers into a different directory on a computer in which Application Server for Developers has already been installed. You can use either of the following installation options to select the programs that you want to install: Standard or Custom.

Use this type of installation if you want multiple instances of Application Server for Developers to co-exist in the same computer. For example, by having different versions of Application Server for Developers on the same computer, you can update a development environment while leaving the development environment before the update.

Additional installation

In this type of installation, you install Application Server for Developers of version 10 or later into a different directory on a computer in which the application execution environment of the version 9 or earlier, the application development environment of the version 9 or earlier,or Application Server of version 10 or later has already been installed. You can use either of the following installation options to select the programs that you want to install: Standard or Custom.

Use this type of installation if you want different editions of Application Server to co-exist in the same computer. For example, you can install a development environment (Application Server for Developers) and an execution environment (Application Server) in the same computer. You can perform an additional installation of Application Server for Developers version 10 or later into a machine in which an application development environment whose version is 9 or earlier has already installed.

Overwrite installation

In this type of installation, you install Application Server for Developers on a computer in which Application Server for Developers has already been installed. The Application Server for Developers that was installed earlier is overwritten. You can use either of the following installation options to select the programs that you want to install: Standard or Custom.

You can use either of the following installation options to select the programs that you want to install:

Standard: The Standard installation option selects all the programs for installation. This installation option is recommended.
Custom: The Custom installation option enables you to select specific programs for installation. This installation option is applicable for users and application developers who are familiar with the functionality of Application Server for Developers.
