7.6.7 Preventing damage to the old version due to remote installation failure

When you use remote installation to upgrade software, the old version of the software might be damaged if remote installation fails. If the old version of software becomes damaged, that software cannot be used until it is remotely installed again.

To prevent this problem, JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 provides a package backup/restore function. If you use the backup/restore function, the old version of software is backed up on the managed computer during remote installation, so that the old version can be restored from the backup if remote installation fails. This function is available only if you select User programs and data in the Package type section.

You can specify the backup/restore function by selecting Restore old version when upgrade failed on the Options page in the JP1/ITDM2 Packaging dialog box of the Packager. Alternatively, you can also select Restore old version when upgrade failed on the Options page in the Change Installation Conditions dialog box of the Remote Install Manager.

The following figure illustrates an example of preventing damage to the old version due to remote installation failure.
