7.2.7 Schedule page

On this page, specify how long a remotely installed package can be stored on a relay system. You must also specify the date/time and execution timing of a remote installation to be performed on a managed computer.

When you are using the Send package, allow client users to choose job, an installation date/time and execution timing are ignored on a managed computer even if you specify them.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Expiration of package storage at the relay computer

If you specify a time limit for package storage on a relay system or management relay server, select the Expiration of package storage at the relay computer check box, and specify a date. For the year, specify the last two digits (if you specify a number from 36 to 99, the year is regarded as the 1900s). The upper limit for the package storage period is December 31, 2035. When the specified time limit is reached, the package stored in the relay system or management relay server is automatically deleted. If you distribute a package that has already expired (or expires on the current day), it is deleted on the following day.

If you clear the check box, the package is stored for 90 days by default. You can change the default storage period by using the Customize Default Settings dialog box. For details, see 7.2.14 Customizing the packaging environment.

In actual operation, a relay system or management relay server needs to store a package until the package finishes being installed on all the computers under the relay system or management relay server. For example, if three weeks are required to distribute and install the package, specify a date at least three weeks in advance.

(2) Installation date/time

If you specify the date and time that you will install a package on a managed computer, select the Installation date/time check box, and specify the date and time. For the year, specify the last two digits.

If you use background installation mode (in which just copying files finishes installing them), installation processing is automatically performed if the target PC for remote installation is running.

(3) Execution timing

In this drop-down list, select the timing of installing the package on the managed computer.

If the same software is already installed on the managed computer (such as when upgrading a software version), remote installation fails if that software is running when remote installation is executed. To prevent such a problem, we recommend that you select Install when the system starts for the installation timing. This also reduces the impact of remote installation on user jobs.

Note that if you select Install when the system starts or Install now (without an installation date/time specified), there is a risk that users might need to hold their jobs. If you want to prevent users from holding their jobs, select Install now, and specify the installation date/time. Specify a date and time when users are less affected by remote installation (while considering the possibility that user jobs might need to be temporarily stopped during installation processing).

Install when the system starts

Installs the package when the system on the computer starts. If you specify an installation date and time, the package is installed when the system starts for the first time after the specified date and time.

Note that the timing of distribution and installation differs according to the settings of the polling-related items in agent configurations. For details about the relationship between polling settings and the timing of distribution and installation, see the description of agent configurations in the JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 Configuration Guide.

If you perform a remote installation of software that starts at system startup, remote installation and the software might start at the same time, thereby causing the installation to fail. To prevent this problem, move the shortcut of the software registered for the Startup group on the managed computer to the ITDM2_Startup folder. You can use agent configurations to create an ITDM2_Startup folder and automatically move a shortcut. For details about how to move a shortcut to the ITDM2_Startup folder, see the description of agent configurations in the JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 Configuration Guide.

Install now

Installs the package at system startup on the computer. If you specify an installation date and time, the package is installed at the specified date and time. However, if the computer is not running at the specified date and time, the package is installed next time the system starts.

When System Stops

Installs the package when the system on the computer stops. If you specify an installation date and time, the package is installed when the system terminates for the first time after the specified date and time.

You can specify this item in the Change Installation Conditions dialog box of the Remote Install Manager when you install a package on an agent for UNIX. If you specify this item for a package to be installed on a Windows agent, the job will result in an error.
