6.2.3 Defining host groups with multiple hierarchical levels
If you define multiple hierarchical levels in the policy settings for host groups, the resulting host groups will consist of multiple hierarchical levels. This subsection describes how this hierarchy is configured, using department information as an example.

The settings shown in this figure result in the following groupings:

Agt01 is added under Unit 1 according to the policy settings.

There is no division or unit information registered for Agt02. Therefore, Agt02 is added directly under the Development group without any intervening levels.

Because the Sales department reports directly to the Software division, there is no Head office information for Agt03. In this case, a new top-level host group Sales is created. Under this Sales group a hierarchy consisting of Sales Division A and Unit 1 is configured and Agt03 is added to Unit 1.
In this manner, host groups are configured even for hosts for which department information could not be acquired, by moving lower elements like divisions up through the hierarchy.
Agents that do not belong to any hierarchy in the Department List or Location List of the Inventory module are not added to host groups. You need to add the appropriate department and location to such agents in the Department List or Location List.
