6.2.2 Applying policies to all host groups

This subsection describes how to apply existing policies to host groups as a batch. You can only use this method with hosts that are already registered in the system configuration information. You cannot use this method with newly created hosts.

The length of time taken to perform batch maintenance of host groups increases in proportion to the number of computers and the number of policies.

Note that the automatic maintenance of destination group function does not operate while batch maintenance is in progress. For this reason, we recommend that you perform batch maintenance of host groups during time frames in which device information is updated infrequently.

  1. In the Destination window, from the Options menu, select Auto Host Group/ID Maintenance.

The Policy Setup dialog box appears.

You can also display this dialog box by selecting Create Host Group from the File menu to display the Create Host Group dialog box, and then clicking Create the policy for a host group.

  2. Click Apply Policies to All Hosts.

    All policies

Select this option to assign all policies listed in the Policy Setup dialog box to host groups. Note that this option does not apply policies that relate to newly added hosts.

Note that you cannot use batch application of ID group policies regardless of type.

Select the policy type to apply

Select the types of policy you want to assign as a batch. You can select multiple types.

    - IP address

    - OS type

    - Additional management item of hardware asset information

    - Department

    - Installation location

After selecting the policy types, click Execute. The hosts registered in the system configuration information are allocated to the host groups according to the selected policies.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Immediately adding new hosts to host groups

If you want to immediately add new hosts to host groups based on the policies you set, use the following method to update the host groups:

For details about how to re-acquire device information, see the description of the procedure for acquiring the latest device information in the JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 Administration Guide.

(2) Backing up host groups

To back up a host group, first rename the host group that you want to back up in the Destination window. When you rename a host group, the host group with the new name is excluded from automatic maintenance of destination group and can be saved as a backup. If you add or change hosts after renaming the host group, the host group is re-created with the original name according to the policy settings and then updated in the usual way.
