5.1.3 Creating system configuration information automatically

The facility for automatically registering the system configuration can automatically create system configuration information based on information reported by lower systems.

The following describes the settings required to create system configuration information automatically, and provides cautionary notes that apply to the use of this facility.

Organization of this subsection

(1) TCP/IP settings required to create system configuration information automatically

If you intend to access the managing server using a host name, the managing server must be defined in the definition database of the TCP/IP protocol. On relay systems, the lower hosts must be defined in the TCP/IP definition database.

(2) Notes on automatically creating system configuration information

If you mistakenly delete the system configuration information on a higher system or the database becomes corrupted, you can restore the information from a backup or have the lower systems provide another system configuration information file.

The following notes apply when building the system and when editing system configuration information:

(a) Notes on building the system

If there is no system configuration information registered for a relay system, the system configuration information that lower systems report to that relay system might be lost. To avoid this issue, when building a system in JP1/IT Desktop Management 2, build the managing server first, followed by the relay servers, and then the agents. If the system configuration information is compiled incorrectly, execute a Get system configuration information job in JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager (manager).

(b) Notes on editing system configuration information

Do not edit system configuration information that has been automatically registered on the managing server. If you need to edit this information, output the system configuration information to a file using Remote Install Manager, back up the file, and then edit the file contents.

If you delete a relay system from the system configuration information, the system configuration information associated with the computers connected to this relay system is also deleted. From this point, system configuration information reported by those computers will not be recorded on the managing server.

For details about how to output system configuration information to a file, and how to apply the contents of a file to the system configuration information, see 5.1.4 Updating system configuration information output to a file.
