5.9.2 Configuration File page

The Configuration File page in the Display/Edit Profiles window is used to display the configuration file or definition files saved on an IM Configuration Management server. If the user has exclusive editing rights, the user can edit the configuration file or definition files. To acquire exclusive editing rights, in the tree display area of the Display/Edit Profiles window, click JP1/Base as a JP1 product name or Remote Monitoring as a remote monitoring profile. Then, from the Edit menu, choose Exclusive Editing Settings.

The Configuration File page has a tree display area and a node information display area. The tree display area displays the configuration files and definition files managed by the IM Configuration Management server in a tree structure. The node information display area displays detailed information about the configuration files and definition files displayed in the tree structure.

The following figure shows an example of the Configuration File page.

Table 5‒30: Items displayed in the Configuration File area

Item

Description

Configuration file contents

Displays information about the configuration file selected in the tree display area. For the items displayed in Configuration file contents, see 5.9.1 Valid Configuration Information page.

Status

Displays Collection status, Collection date/time, Application status, and Application date/time for the configuration file selected in the tree display area.

  • Collection status

Displays one of the following collection statuses for the configuration file:

    - Not collected

    - Collected

    - Collection failed

  • Collection date/time

Displays the time#1 on the manager that information was collected in the JP1/IM - View locale.

Collection date/time is updated when any of the following occurs: the profiles are collected in a batch operation (Batch Collect Profiles), the configuration file is collected, the configuration file is applied, or the profiles are applied in a batch operation (Batch Reflect Profiles).

  • Application status

Displays one of the following application statuses for the configuration file:

    - Blank (nothing displayed)

This indicates that the settings file does not exist on the server or settings have been applied. For example, this status arises immediately after the settings file is imported or if the process is stopped.

    - Applied

This indicates that the settings file has been applied and the target process is running.

    - Reflection failed#2

This indicates that the settings file could not be applied due to an error.

    - Saved on the server#2

This indicates that the created or edited settings file saved on the server has not been used by the target process.

  • Application date/time

Displays the time on the agent that information was applied correctly in the IM-View locale.

Application date/time is updated when the profiles are applied in a batch operation (Batch Reflect Profiles) or the configuration file is applied.

Saving/application

Applied contents
  • Apply

Applies the settings to the system managed by IM Configuration Management.

  • Save

Saves the settings to the server on which IM Configuration Management is running.

Application method

Reload is chosen as the application method.

#1

Indicates the time on the manager on which IM Configuration Management is running.

#2

If there are settings files whose status is Application failed or Saved on the server, an icon indicating an error state is added to the relevant host icon in the tree display area. If this icon is displayed, check for problems with the settings files. If no settings files are being used, display of the error-state icon might be annoying. The following describes how to suppress displaying that icon.

For remote monitoring log file trapping or JP1/Base log file trapping:

From the Edit menu, choose Delete Profile to delete unnecessary settings files.

For remote-monitoring event-log trapping:

From the Operation menu, choose Start Process to start the process. Then, from the Operation menu, choose Stop Process to stop the process.

For JP1/Base event log trapping:

Stop the service on the target host. Then, from the Operation menu, choose Rebuild Profile Tree to re-create the settings files.

The contents of the Configuration File page change when an item under the Log File Trapping node is selected in the tree display area. The following figure shows an example of the Configuration File page displayed when the agent is a Windows host.

Figure 5‒24: Example of the Configuration File page (when an item under Log File Trapping selected)

Description

Startup Options

  • Monitoring log file

For JP1/Base, specify the paths to the log files that are specified in the log-file trap startup definition file (log file names specified for the jevlogstart command#1 of JP1/Base).

For remote monitoring, specify the paths to the log files (log file names specified for the jcfallogstart#1 or jcfallogdef#1 command).

The following shows the characters that cannot be used in monitoring log file names.

    For JP1/Base:

    < (0x3c), > (0x3e), and | (0x7c)

    For remote monitoring:

    < (0x3c), > (0x3e), | (0x7c), * (0x2a), and ? (0x3f)

Note that if a UNIX host is to be monitored, the path names of the log files to be monitored can have alphanumeric characters, hyphens (-), underscores (_), periods (.), and slashes (/). Log files whose path name includes characters other than these might not be monitored normally.

The following shows the maximum number of monitoring log file names that can be specified:

    - Log file trapping in Windows: 32

    - Log file trapping in UNIX: 100

    - Remote-monitoring log file trapping: 32

To specify multiple paths for Monitoring log file, use a space as a separator. If a path specified for Monitoring log file includes spaces, enclose the path in double quotation marks ("). The maximum length of the character string#2 that can be specified is 1,920 bytes.

If a Windows host is to be monitored remotely, the \\host-name part existing in the actual path name must be excluded from each path specified for Monitoring log file as shown below:

Actual path of a monitoring log file:

    \\host-name\shared-folder-name\file-name

Value to be specified for Monitoring log file:

    \shared-folder-name\file-name

    The following shows examples:

    Example 1: \share\logdir\test01.log \share\logdir\test02.log

    Example 2: "\share\log dir\test01.log" "\share\log dir\test02.log"

  • Startup locale

This item is displayed if the agent is a UNIX host.

A combination of the character encoding and LANG values can be selected from the drop-down list.

The following shows an example of the Startup locale drop-down list.

    [Figure]

For details about the Startup locale drop-down list, see Table 5-32 Settings that can be selected by using the Startup locale drop-down list (When JP1/IM - Manager operates in a Japanese OS), Table 5-33 Settings that can be selected by using the Startup locale drop-down list (When JP1/IM - Manager operates in an English OS), and Table 5-34 Settings that can be selected by using the Startup locale drop-down list (When JP1/IM - Manager operates in a Chinese OS).
