5.1.3 Windows service for starting and stopping Navigation Platform (system)

The following shows the name of the Windows service that controls start and stop of Navigation Platform and the service name that is displayed:

Navigation Platform Start Service

When the status of the Navigation Platform Start Service is set to start, Navigation Platform starts. When the status of the Navigation Platform Start Service is set to stop, Navigation Platform stops.

The startup type of the Navigation Platform Start Service is set to Manual by default. If you want to start Navigation Platform automatically when the machine starts, change the startup type to Automatic. Do not set the startup type of the Navigation Platform Start Service to Disabled. If it is set to Disabled, Navigation Platform operation is not guaranteed.

Note

If you will be executing other programs, for example, by using batch files, after Navigation Platform has started, you need to use the command, not the service, to start Navigation Platform.

Important

If the service is used to start Navigation Platform, Navigation Platform cannot be stopped by using commands. Use the service to stop Navigation Platform. If you need to use commands to stop Navigation Platform, use net stop "Navigation Platform Start Service".

For convenience sake, we recommend creating net stop "Navigation Platform Start Service" as a batch file.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Linked Windows services

The following services are linked to the Navigation Platform Start Service. Parentheses enclose the service name that is displayed:

When the Navigation Platform Start Service is started or stopped, these services are also started or stopped. There is no need to start or stop these linked services individually.

Make sure that their startup type is set to Manual. If the startup type is changed, their operation is not guaranteed.

(2) Corrective action in the event the Navigation Platform Start Service does not start

The Navigation Platform Start Service might not start due to a timeout or for some other reason. If the cause is a timeout, the Navigation Platform Start Service's status will become start after you wait a while, in which case no action will be needed.

If the Navigation Platform Start Service's status does not become start even after you wait a while, an error other than a timeout has occurred. Check the application's Windows log and take the corrective action according to the information provided in the displayed message.

(3) Corrective action in the event of an error during Navigation Platform Start Service termination processing

An error might occur while the Navigation Platform Start Service is under termination processing due to a timeout or for some other reason. If the cause is a timeout, the Navigation Platform Start Service's status will become stop after you wait a while, in which case no action will be needed.

If the Navigation Platform Start Service's status does not become stop even after you wait a while, an error other than a timeout has occurred. Check the application's Windows log and take the corrective action according to the information provided in the displayed message.
