This subsection describes how to install the remote control program from JP1/Software Distribution. The figure below shows the installation procedure.

Administrator privileges are required in order to perform the installation. The settings you select for the steps through to Specify the program folder are common to all JP1/Software Distribution components.
Note that the windows and displayed items of the installer may vary slightly for each program. Unless there is a need to explain a specific program or function, the following subsection will display screenshots of the JP1/Software Distribution installer.
Insert the provided CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then follow the instructions of the displayed installer.
When the installer starts, the installation program of JP1/Software Distribution starts and displays the Setup dialog box.

To continue the installation, click the Next button. To cancel the installation, click the Cancel button.
In this step, you register your name and company name.

Enter the necessary information, and click the Next button. Clicking the Back button will return to the Setup dialog box.
In this step, you set the installation directory of Remote Control Manager or Remote Control Agent. This dialog box is displayed only for the first installation of JP1/Software Distribution. When you perform an overwrite installation, the installation is automatically directed to the existing installation directory.

The default installation destination is C:\Program Files\Hitachi\NETMDM (C: is the name of the drive where the OS is installed). Note, however, that when you install the JP1/Remote Control product on a computer running Windows Server 2012, 64-bit Editions of Windows 8, or 64-bit Editions of Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64), 64-bit Editions of Windows Server 2008, 64-bit Editions of Windows Vista or Windows Server 2003 (x64), the default installation destination will be C:\Program Files (x86)\Hitachi\NETMDM.
Note the following points when modifying the installation destination directory shown by default.
Click the Next button to continue installation.
In the Select Manager Type dialog box, you specify whether the program will be used as a central manager or a relay manager when installing a remote control program from JP1/Software Distribution Manager.

If you select Central manager, only Remote Control Manager is installed. If you select Relay manager, Remote Control Manager and Remote Control Agent are installed. You also need to enter the host name and the IP address of the higher system according to the connection destination's ID key for operations.
When you install a remote control program from JP1/Software Distribution Client, specify whether the program will be used as a relay system or a client. With JP1/Software Distribution Client, you can only install Remote Control Agent. Specify the host name or IP address of the higher system according to the ID key for operations of the connection destination.
Click the Next button to proceed with the installation.
In this step, you select the installation components and subcomponents. When upgrading to a newer version, you can add components and subcomponents, but you cannot remove ones that are already installed.

The components that are displayed vary depending on the environment you are installing to and the server type. For JP1/Software Distribution Manager (Relay Manager), you can simultaneously select both Remote Control Manager and Remote Control Agent.
The subcomponents are displayed in a tree view below the component name. From the following two types of components, select the components to be installed:
You cannot select Chat without selecting Remote Control Manager or Remote Control Agent.
Whether the online help is installed varies depending on the JP1/Software Distribution product, as follows:
In this step, you specify the program folder where the program icon is to be registered. You can change the default folder and select one of the existing program folders. However, you cannot specify a folder name including a back slash (\) for the program folder.

This dialog box is displayed only for the first installation of JP1/Software Distribution, or when you perform an overwrite installation in an environment where the program folder has not been created. If you are installing JP1/Software Distribution in an environment where the program file is already created, the existing program folder is automatically used.
Click the Next button to proceed with the installation. If you are installing components other than the remote control program, the Setup window is displayed next.
When installing Remote Control Agent for the first time, the Notes dialog box is displayed. Depending on the OS you are installing to, the contents of the Notes dialog box will vary as described below:

If no other vendor's remote control product is installed on the personal computer, click Next to continue installation. To cancel the installation, click the Cancel button.Figure 2-19 Notes dialog box (if the operating system is Windows NT 4.0, Windows Me, or Windows 98)
On each personal computer where JP1/Remote Control Agent is installed, confirm that a display driver compatible with JP1/Remote Control is used. If the display driver used on the personal computer is not compatible with JP1/Remote Control, the personal computer or Remote Control Agent may malfunction after JP1/Remote Control Agent is installed.This step displays the information for starting the copying of the JP1/Software Distribution files that contain the remote control program.

Check the contents of the information. Click the Back button to make changes if necessary. If you do not need to change anything, click the Next button. A dialog box that displays the progress of the installation is displayed, and the file copying starts.
When all files are copied, the following dialog box appears.

When installing Remote Control Agent, you should select the Start Remote Control Agent Setup check box in order to launch the setup program immediately following installation.
Depending on the PC, you may be prompted to restart your computer after the installation finishes. If you are prompted, follow the instructions on the screen and specify whether to restart now or later.
Click the Finish button to exit the installer.
