1.1 What is remote control?

One offshoot of the rapid proliferation of PCs is the growing number of users who are unaccustomed to performing procedures such as application setup and troubleshooting. In corporations, PC-related tasks like these are usually left to system administrators with specialized knowledge of computers. However, when several offices are involved, or when the system administrator is busy, it becomes difficult to respond rapidly to problems.

In such situations, problems can be resolved faster if the system administrator can operate the problem machine via remote control from his or her own PC via a computer network. JP1/Remote Control offers a remote control facility that allows you to call up the screen of a remote PC onto the desktop of your own PC via a telephone line or LAN, and perform operations via remote control.

Using the remote control facility allows you to perform keyboard or mouse operations on the remote PC screen just as if it were your local PC. You can even shut down or reboot the remote PC. You can also issue an instruction to shut down and switch off a remote PC if the PC is equipped with a power-off functionality.

The following figure shows an overview of the remote control facility.
