11.4.2 Installing from Package Setup Manager

You can perform the following operations on a package displayed in the Package Setup Manager window:

Organization of this subsection
(1) Installing a package (automatic installation)
(2) Installing a package (manual installation)
(3) Declining installation
(4) Displaying detailed information about a package

(1) Installing a package (automatic installation)

This option installs a package automatically. You can specify in advance for each package the directory in which it is to be installed. Installation directories can be changed during the installation process.

The following explains how to change an installation directory and the procedure for automatic installation.

(a) Changing the installation directory

To change the installation directory:

  1. Select the package for which the installation directory is to be changed, choose Edit, and then choose Change Installation Path.
The Change Installation Path dialog box is displayed.

  2. Specify the new installation directory and choose OK.
    The installation directory is changed.
(b) Automatic installation of a package

To perform automatic installation of a package:

  1. Select the package to be installed (more than one package can be selected), choose Execute, and then choose Install.
The selected package or packages are displayed in the Specify Installation Method dialog box.

  2. In Installation method, select Automatic.
To change the installation directories, specify the new installation directory in the Change Installation Path dialog box, which you can display by choosing the Change Installation Path button.
If a description is provided with a package, you can view it by selecting the Package Details button.
  3. Choose Execute.
Remote installation of the selected package(s) begins.

(2) Installing a package (manual installation)

If the type of the package to be installed is Hitachi program product or another company's software, you can install it manually by responding on the screen to Installer. When it is necessary to perform a custom installation to accommodate the client user environment, you should install the package manually. However, some Hitachi program products cannot be installed manually.

To perform manual installation of a package:

  1. Select the package to be installed, choose Execute, and then choose Install.
The selected package is displayed in the Specify Installation Method dialog box. For manual installation, you can select only one package.
  2. In Installation method, select Manual.
The Change Installation Path button becomes disabled. You can change the installation directory during the manual installation that follows.
If a description is provided with the package, you can view it by selecting the Package Details button.
For another company's software, choose Command Option to display the Setup Command Option dialog box. Specify as a maximum of 1,024 bytes the name of the Installer (setup.exe, for example) and any applicable options that are needed.

    [Figure]

  3. Choose Execute.
    Installer starts.
  4. Perform installation of the selected package by following the instructions provided by Installer.
Some software requires input of a floppy disk path name so that floppy disks can be reloaded during installation. In this case, change the last digit of the path name that is displayed in the dialog box to the number for the next floppy disk to be read.
When the Installer's processing is completed, the system displays the Send Result of Manual Installation dialog box.

    [Figure]

  5. Report the installation's execution status (Installation result) to JP1/Software Distribution Client (Relay System or Client).
When the client user performs remote installation manually, Package Setup Manager cannot monitor the results of the remote installation. You need to specify the installation results in the Send Result of Manual Installation dialog box. Select either Installation completed or Installation failed, and choose the OK button.
The Send Result of Manual Installation dialog box appears when the setup command is closed. Therefore, this dialog box may be displayed before all installation processing is completed. In such a case, choosing OK will terminate installation processing prematurely. For this reason, it is important to make sure that installation has been completed before choosing the OK button.

(3) Declining installation

If a package for which installation is permitted is not needed, the client user can decline its installation. The client user can also notify the higher system that executed the remote installation job that the package was not installed.

To decline installation:

  1. Select the package whose remote installation is to be declined (multiple packages can be specified); choose Edit and then Delete Package.
The selected package or packages are deleted from the list and their remote installation is declined. Note, however, that deleting from the list a previously remotely installed package that was previously installed does not uninstall it; the only result is that the package is removed from the list of packages.

(4) Displaying detailed information about a package

You can display information about packages that have been authorized for remote installation. If remote installation of a package fails, you can display the cause. You can view such displays as appropriate.

To display detailed information about a package:

  1. Select the package for which you wish to display information, choose View, and then choose Details.
Package information is displayed in the Package Details dialog box.
