3.2.4 Creating a software search list

You can check the content of a software search list in the Software Search List dialog box.

To use the Software Search List dialog box:

The Optional Software page shows the content of the optional software list. You can also edit the content of a created search list.

The Standard Software page shows the content of the standard search list.

How to create an optional software list is explained below.

(1) Creating an optional software list

To create a new optional software list:

  1. From the List of Software Information window, choose File and then Create Search List.
    The Software Search List dialog box appears. Initially, the Standard Software page is displayed.

  2. Choose Add.
    The Add Software to List dialog box appears.

    Register the information on the search-target software. You must make entries in the following fields:
    • Program name
      Specify 1 to 50 characters. The characters \ and ; cannot be used.
    • Package ID
      Specify 1 to 44 characters. The permitted characters are A to Z, 0 to 9, _, and -.
    • File name
      Specify 1 to 256 characters. The characters \ and ; cannot be used.
    If you use the Browse button to select a file, software information is set automatically. The managing server's local time is set in Last update.
  3. Choose Add.
    The specified item is added to the Optional Software page. You can continue adding items in this dialog box.
  4. When you are done adding items, choose Exit.
    The settings are saved and the Add Software to List dialog box closes.
  5. Choose Save.
    The Settings for Search List Name dialog box appears.
  6. Specify a name, and then choose OK.
    The specified information is saved and the Software Search List dialog box closes. The search list you have created is displayed in the List of Software Information window.

(2) Using a file to create an optional software list

You can create an optional software list not only using the Software Search List dialog box, but also from a file containing the items for the search list. You can also output the optional software list displayed in the List of Software Information window to a file.

(a) Optional software list file format

The file format of an optional software list is described below. A software search list consists of one line of information per software program in the format shown. This is a text file.

A line containing # in column 1 is treated as a comment.

Format
information-map;program-ID;file-name;package-ID;[version];product-name;[last-file-update-time];[file-size];[generation-number]

Explanation
information-map (required)
Always specify 001.
program-ID (required)
Specify one of the following program IDs:
P: Hitachi program product
I: Other company's software
space: User program or data
Any other value is treated as no specification.
file-name (required)
Specify a file constituting a software item to be searched for, using a maximum of 256 characters. To achieve a more accurate search, you should specify a file name that is characteristic of the software subject to search.
package-ID (required)
Specify a unique character string for each software program, as up to 44 characters. The characters permitted are A-Z, 0-9, and -. When you register new software information into the optional software list, specify IDs that are not used in the standard software list. For a program, you should specify as follows:
  • Hitachi program product
    Product name (Example: P-2442-1314)
  • Other company's software
    (company-name)-(product-name)
version
Specify the version of the software subject to search, as up to 6 characters. The characters permitted are A-Z, 0-9, and /. If no value is specified, JP1/Software Distribution obtains the version information from the version resources of the file subject to search. If version information cannot be obtained, the value 0000 is set automatically.
product-name (mandatory)
Specify the name of the software that will be searched, using a maximum of 50 characters. The character \ cannot be used.
last-file-update-time
Specify the last update time for the file with the specified file name. You use this information when there are multiple versions of the software subject to search. Specify in the format YYYY/MM/DD/hh/mm/ss to the extent needed.
Example:
File created at 11 a.m. on August 1, 2000: 2000/08/01/11
file-size
Specify the size in bytes of the file with the specified file name. Specify this information when there are multiple versions of the software subject to search. Specify a file size as up to 10 digits in the range 0-2,147,483,647.
generation-number
Specify the generation number of the software subject to search, as up to 4 characters. The permitted characters are A-Z and 0-9. If this information is omitted, the value 0000 is set automatically.

(b) Creating an optional software list from a file

To create an optional software list from a file in which search list items have been set:

  1. From the List of Software Information window, choose File and then Create from File.
    The Open Search List File dialog box appears.
  2. Select a desired file, and then choose OK.
    The Specify Search List Name dialog box appears.
  3. Specify a desired name, and then choose OK.
    The specified file is read and the search list is created.
    If there is any erroneous information in the file, a dialog box appears indicating the error. In such a case, correct the file and re-execute.
(c) Outputting an optional software list to a file

To output the content of the optional software list displayed in the List of Software Information window to a file:

  1. In the List of Software Information window, select the optional software list to be output.
  2. Choose File and then Save to File.
    The Save Search List dialog box appears.
  3. Specify a file name, and then choose OK.
    The content of the optional software list is output to a file.

(3) Using a software inventory dictionary to create an optional software list

You can apply the result of a file search to the Optional Software page. You create a file by importing the information for the specified software as managed in a software inventory dictionary created from a file search.

To create the file:

  1. Open the Optional Software page and click Import From Software Inventory Results.
    The Import From Software Inventory Results button is enabled only when the list on the Optional Software page is blank.
    Note that clicking a button will result in an error if the software inventory dictionary to be imported is in one of the statuses listed below; in such a case, edit the software inventory dictionary:
    • No software to be managed is specified in the dictionary.
    • The dictionary is empty.
    • No software name is specified in the dictionary.

(4) Editing items in an optional software list

To edit items in the list of optional software that has already been registered:

  1. On the Optional Software page, select an item to be edited.
  2. Click the Change button.
    The Add Software to List dialog box appears.
  3. Edit the registered information.
    In the Add Software to List dialog box, edit the registered information.
  4. Click the Add button.
    The edited information is applied to the optional software list.
