9.6.3 Setting assigned items for group and location

If group and location are managed in JP1/Software Distribution's user inventory information, you can register that information in the asset management database.

Group and location names are registered as group and location information with the tree structure as well as the asset information. This enables you to save the time for registering group and location names and maintain conformity with the information managed by JP1/Software Distribution.

This section describes the registered information that depends on the assigned item when JP1/Software Distribution's user inventory information is assigned to the asset information Group name and Location.

Reference note
You can also register group names and locations according to the IP groups to which the IP addresses collected as the JP1/Software Distribution inventory information belongs. By also using the setting for registering according to IP groups, you can register the group names and locations of the assets that were not assigned in the JP1/Software Distribution user inventory information, according to IP groups. For details about how to register group names and locations according to IP groups, see 5.3.4(9) Settings for a group that uses a group-specific IP group and 5.3.4(10) Settings for a location that uses a location-specific IP group.

(3) Setting an assigned item for locations

(1) Difference in registered information depending on the assigned item settings for the group name

To register group names using JP1/Software Distribution's user inventory information, select either the group information or user name in the user inventory as the assigned item.

If you use the group information in the user inventory as the assigned item, also specify whether provision is to be made to register new groups that are not in Asset Information Manager.

When using the user name in user inventory as the assigned item
The user name in the user inventory information is assigned to the user information. If the corresponding user has been registered, that user's group is registered in the asset information Group name.
If the corresponding user has not been registered in the user information, that user is not registered.
This setting enables you to use Asset Information Manager's group information even when the group information is managed by JP1/Software Distribution.

When using the group information in user inventory as the assigned item and registering new groups
The group name acquired from the user inventory information is converted to the representation used by Asset Information Manager according to JP1/Software Distribution's hierarchy. The resulting value is then assigned to the group information and the corresponding group is registered in the asset information Group name.
If there is no corresponding group, a new group is added to the group information, and the information about the added group is registered in the asset information Group name.

When using the group information in user inventory as the assigned item and not registering new groups
The group name acquired from the user inventory information is converted to the representation used by Asset Information Manager according to JP1/Software Distribution's hierarchy. The resulting value is then assigned to the group information, and the corresponding group is registered in the asset information Group name.
If there is no corresponding group, no group is registered.

The figure below shows an example of using the user name in the user inventory as the assigned item.
