6.1 Monitoring software operations

This section explains how to monitor software operations.

  1. From Remote Installation Manager's Options menu, choose Software Operation Monitoring and then Monitoring Target settings.
    The Edit Software Operation Monitoring Policy dialog box opens.

  2. Create an operation monitoring policy.
    In the Edit Software Operation Monitoring Policy dialog box, set items such as the operations for which logs are to be obtained, programs whose startup is to be suppressed, and programs whose operation time is to be obtained.

    For details about how to specify values in the Edit Software Operation Monitoring Policy dialog box, see 6.2 Creating an operation monitoring policy.
    Operation monitoring policy sharing enables you to create a policy by importing an operating monitoring policy from a file.
    For details about how to create an operation monitoring policy by importing from a file, see 6.9 Sharing operation monitoring policies.
  3. When the settings are completed, click the Finish button.
    An operation monitoring policy is created.
    To begin operation monitoring, after you have created an operation monitoring policy, execute a job to apply the operation monitoring policy to the client. For details about how to start monitoring, see 6.3 Starting or stopping operation monitoring.
  4. In the Job Definition window, choose File and then Create Job.
    The Define New Job dialog box opens.
  5. Specify Set the software monitoring policy as the job type and click the OK button.

  6. On the Operation Monitoring Policy page, set up the created policy.

    For details about how to set up the Operation Monitoring Policy page, see 8.2.8 Setting up the Operation Monitoring Policy page.
    The other types of pages that are displayed in the dialog box and how to set them are explained below.
    Job page
    Specify the job name. For details about how to specify a value on the Job page, see 8.2.3 Setting up the Job page.
    Destination page
    Specify the host to which the operation monitoring policy is to be applied. You must specify at least one destination. For details about how to specify a value on the Destination page, see 8.2.4 Setting up the Destination page.
    Schedule page
    Specify job registration date and time, execution date, and execution time limit. For details about how to specify values on the Schedule page, see 8.2.5 Setting up the Schedule page.
    Client Control page
    You can specify whether to use the Client Control facility. For details about how to specify a value on the Client Control page, see 8.2.6 Setting up the Client Control page.
  7. Execute the job.
    The operation monitoring policy is applied to the destination client and operation monitoring begins.
    The suppression log and operation log are automatically reported from the client. For details about how to collect a suppression log and an operation log, see 6.4 Collecting operation information.
  8. From the Remote Installation Manager's Options menu, choose Software Operation Monitoring and then Browse Software Operation Information.
    The Software Operation Information window opens.

    In the Software Operation Information window, you can check the suppression log and operation log. For details about the types and formats of the information that is displayed, see 6.5 Browsing operation information.
    If you are using Asset Information Manager Subset, you can use the Operation Log List window, the Operation Log Total window, and the Software Operation Status window to manage obtained operation information.

To stop software operation monitoring, on the Operation Monitoring Policy page where you created the Set the software monitoring policy job, execute a job with Stop Monitoring Operating Software specified.
