2.2.3 System Conditions page

Use this page to specify the destination directory for remote installation and client hardware conditions where installation will occur.

Figure 2-14 System Conditions page

[Figure]

Organization of this subsection
(1) Installation target directory (required)
(2) System conditions
(3) Take system conditions from file

(1) Installation target directory (required)

Specify the destination directory where the package is to be installed.

Drive
Displays the default drive at the specified remote installation target. You can select any drive; however, for background installation mode, do not specify a network drive.
For the drive name, you can specify A: to Z:, 1: to 9:, or None. These names represent the hard-disk drives arranged in alphabetical order. If a PC's drive A is the floppy disk and drive C is the hard disk, then 1: indicates the C drive. If a PC's drive A is the hard disk, then 1: indicates the A drive. Specifying 1: as the destination drive means specifying the C drive for the former PC and the A drive for the latter. Specify None if you want to specify a directory using a path name complying with the universal naming conventions (UNC) or an environment variable that can be used by JP1/Software Distribution.
Specify None for Drive in the following cases:
  • The distribution destination is WS (UNIX system).#
  • The package type is Hitachi program products or Other companies' software.
#: During distribution, the specified drive is ignored and distribution occurs according to the directory specification.

Directory
Displays the default directory at the remote installation target. Specify the path to the desired directory using a character string that begins with a backslash (\). If the destination is a PC, you can specify a maximum of 128 characters, including drive name. If the destination is a UNIX workstation, you can specify a maximum of 64 characters. You can also specify the following environment variables.
Environment variable Description
%NETMDMP% Directory in which JP1/Software Distribution Manager (relay manager) or JP1/Software Distribution Client is installed
%WINDOWS% Directory in which Windows is installed
%SYSTEM% System or System32 directory under the directory in which Windows is installed#

#: The System directory is used when the OS of the job destination is Windows 98 or Windows Me. If remote installation is performed to install a 32-bit version of a Hitachi program product or of another company's software on a 64-bit version of Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2003 (x64), the SysWOW64 directory may be used, depending on the software to be installed.

The following table shows the path name for the environment variables %SYSTEM%.
Environment Path
Windows 98 or Windows Me System directory under the directory in which Windows is installed
32-bit OS System32 directory under the directory in which Windows is installed
32-bit OS Terminal Server System32 directory under the user-specific directory that exists under the directory in which Windows is installed
64-bit OS SysWOW64 directory under the directory in which Windows is installed
64-bit OS Terminal Server SysWOW64 directory under the user-specific directory that exists under the directory in which Windows is installed
If you are specifying for a directory a UNC path name or an environment variable that can be used by JP1/Software Distribution, specify None for the drive. For example, if you wish to install a package in the \APP\PROG directory, which has been declared as being shared by the SRV010 server, you would select None for the drive and specify \\SRV010\APP\PROG for the directory.
You should note the following about specifying the directory:
  • The path name of the installation target directory cannot contain the character string %HITACHI_REG\xxx% (xxx: any characters). This character string indicates the specific path of a Hitachi program product and is one of the JP1/Software Distribution reserved words that may not be used by general users.
  • When you package a Hitachi program product, do not use a semicolon (;), double quotation mark ("), or space in the directory name.
  • In the background installation mode, you cannot install in a directory without the appropriate access permission (an installation attempt will fail).
  • If you specify a nonexistent directory path, a directory is created in the machine at the remote installation destination.

(2) System conditions

Specify whether you will enter system conditions on the screen or you wish to load a user-created installation script.

Create system conditions
Use this option to specify the enter conditions on the screen. You can then make selections from the Item, Comparison, and Value menus and then click Add to display the appropriate conditional expression in the window. The package will be installed in a system only if the specified conditions are satisfied. You can specify multiple conditional expressions, in which case the package is installed only if all the conditions are satisfied.
Item
You can select items, including available hard disk space, CPU type, whether a coprocessor is used, OS version, and real memory size.
Comparison
The comparison values displayed depend on the selection in Item. You select the desired comparison value from the list, such as =, [Figure], or [Figure]. Note that you can select only one comparison value in each expression.
Value
The values displayed in Value depend on the selection in Item. You can select a value from the list or specify a desired value in the text field.
If an OS version is specified in Item, the OSs to be compared depend on the OS specified in Value. The following table shows the OSs that are compared for the OSs that can be set.
OSs that can be set OSs that are compared
Common Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0, Windows Me, Windows 98, Windows 95
Windows8, WindowsServer 2012, Windows7, WindowsServer2008 R2, WindowsServer 2008, WindowsVista, WindowsServer2003, WindowsXP, Windows2000, WindowsNT Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0
WindowsMe, Windows98, Windows95 Windows Me, Windows 98, Windows 95
If a comparison symbol is specified in Comparison, the target OSs will be determined according to the combination of settings in this table.
For example, if OS version < Windows XP is specified, the target OSs will be Windows 2000 and Windows NT 4.0, which are older in version than Windows XP. This means that Windows Me, Windows 98, and Windows 95 are not compared.
If Common is specified in Value, the OSs are compared according to their version value. The following table shows the version permitted for each applicable OS:
Version Corresponding OS
0605 Windows Server 2012
0604 Windows 8
0603 Windows Server 2008 R2
0602 Windows 7
0601 Windows Server 2008
0600 Windows Vista
0502 Windows Server 2003
0501 Windows XP
0500 Windows 2000
0490 Windows Me
0410 Windows 98
0400 Windows NT, Windows 95
For example, if >=Common is specified for Comparison and Value, and the version is set to 0500, all OSs with version number 0500 or greater will be the targets. Therefore, the corresponding OSs will be Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Windows 2000.
If WindowsNT or Windows95 is specified, the version number must be specified; in the case of WindowsNT, version number 0400 must be specified. If Windows95 is specified, both Windows 98 and Windows 95 are included; therefore, a version number must be specified to differentiate between the two. Note that specifying Windows98 targets Windows 98 only.
The following table shows all combinations of OSs that can be set; combinations not shown in this table cannot be set:

(3) Take system conditions from file

Use this option to load a user-created installation script. Choose Browse and select a desired script file from the dialog box that appears. For details about how to create an installation script, see D. Creating a Script for Setting Installation Conditions.
