12.4.2 Package installation using Package Setup Manager

You can perform the following operations using the Package Setup Manager window:

Organization of this subsection

(1) Installing packages (by automatic installation)

You can install packages automatically. When installing packages automatically, you can change the setting of the installation-target directory beforehand for individual packages. You can change the installation-target directory also when installation is executed.

The following describes how to change the installation-target directory, and how to perform automatic installation:

(a) Changing the installation-target directory

  1. Select the package for which to change the installation-target directory, and then, from the Edit menu, choose Change Installation Path.

The Change Installation Path dialog box appears.

  2. Change the installation-target directory, and then click the OK button.

    The installation-target directory is changed.

(b) Automatically installing a package

  1. Select the package to be installed (multiple packages can be selected), and then, from the Execute menu, choose Install.

This button displays a directory-browsing dialog box to change the installation-target directory for the selected package.

This button enables you to display and browse the description files appended to the package.

    Command Option button

This button enables you to specify options for the executable file of the installer.

    Installation method

This item enables you to select between automatically installing the package and manually installing it.

    Execute button

This button starts installation of the displayed package.

  2. Select Automatic under Installation method.

If you want to change the installation-target directory, click the Change Installation Path button to open the Change Installation Path dialog box, and then specify a new installation-target directory in the dialog box.

You can browse description files appended to the package. To browse them, click the Package Details button.

  3. Click the Execute button.

Remote installation of the selected package starts.

(2) Installing a package (by manual installation)

You can manually install a package whose package type is Hitachi program product or another company's software while manually responding to the installer of the package on the GUI. If custom installation is required, manually install a package, and then adjust it to the user's environment. Note, however, that some Hitachi program products cannot be installed manually. To install a package manually, do the following:

  1. Select the package to be installed, and then, from the Execute menu, choose Install.

The Specify Installation Method dialog box appears, displaying the selected package. Note that you can select only one package for manual installation.

  2. Select Manual under Installation method.

The Change Installation Path button is deactivated. The installation-target directory, however, can be changed in a subsequent step of manual installation.

When description files are appended to the package, you can browse them. To browse them, click the Package Details button.

When the package to be installed is another company's software, click the Command Option button to open the Setup Command Option dialog box. In the dialog box, specify the name of the installer (for example, setup.exe) and, if necessary, a command option (1,024 or fewer bytes).

  3. Click the Execute button.

    The installer starts.

  4. Perform installation as instructed by the installer for the selected package.

Some packages require you to replace the CD-R during installation processing, and then enter the path name of the CD-R to be read next. If the entry of the path name is requested, change the last numerical value of the path name displayed in the dialog box to the numeric value assigned to the CD-R to be read next.

When processing by the installer ends, the Send Result of Manual Installation dialog box appears.

    [Figure]

  5. Notify the status of installation execution (result of execution) to JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Agent (relay system or agent).

If the user remotely installed a package by manually responding to the installer, Package Setup Manager cannot recognize the execution result of installation. Therefore, specify the execution result in the Send Result of Manual Installation dialog box. In the dialog box, select Installation completed or Installation failed, and then click the OK button.

The Send Result of Manual Installation dialog box appears when the setup command ends. Therefore, the dialog box might appear before installation is complete. In such a case, if you click the OK button in the dialog box before installation is complete, the installation is terminated forcibly. Before clicking the OK button, make sure that the installation is complete.

(3) Displaying detailed package information

You can display information about packages that permit remote installation. For packages that failed to be installed, you can display the cause of failure. Reference the information as needed.

  1. Select the package about which information is to be displayed, and then, from the View menu, select Details.

The Package Details dialog box appears, displaying the information about the package.
