10.5.2 Re-executing a job with an error

When you execute a job destined to multiple destinations, the job may complete in one location, but does not complete successfully in other locations and shows an execution error due to waiting for execution or connection error. The job that has not completed successfully needs to be re-executed, but the job does not have to be re-executed to all the destinations. You can re-execute the job that is Waiting for execution or Error.

The following section describes the settings required to re-execute a job, and how to re-execute a job.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Settings required to re-execute a job

To be able to re-execute a job, you must have set up the managing server to record the job execution results.

(a) Executing normal jobs

To re-execute a normal job (a job whose destination is not an ID group), you must set up the managing server to manage the results. In the JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager setup, select the Record job execution results check box in the Result Recording Options panel of the Setup for Distribution by Using Remote Install Manager window.

(2) Re-executing a job with an error

You can instruct a job re-execution for a destination with Waiting for execution or Error in the Job Status window. You can specify multiple destinations in a single instruction. You cannot re-execute multiple jobs at the same time.

To re-execute a job:

  1. Select the job to be re-executed.

To re-execute an ID group job, select the relay system managing the ID group.

  2. Select Execute, and then Re-execute Job in the Job Status window.

The Job Retry dialog box appears.

    [Figure]

    Job

Displays the name of the job to be re-executed. This item is also displayed when you request re-execution by selecting a management relay server, relay system, or managed computer within the job.

    Destination

Displays the management relay server, relay system, or managed computer where the job is to be re-executed. Only the first destination is displayed when you have selected two or more destinations in the Job Status window.

    All destinations

This item is displayed when you requested re-execution by selecting a job in the Job Status window. All the management relay servers, relay systems, and managed computers within the job are subject to the re-execution of the job.

Specify valid execution status of each client

You can specify the status of the management relay server, relay system, or managed computer where the job is to be re-executed.

    Waiting for execution

Re-requests the management relay server, relay system, or managed computer waiting for job execution to receive the selected job.

    Temporary error

Re-requests the management relay server, relay system, or managed computer (that generated a communication error or failed to start) to execute the job. For temporary errors that occur under a relay system or management relay server, a re-execution request job is created in the RETRY_RELAY_SYSTEM folder. In a re-execution of a Temporary error job, the status of the job is not be changed by the re-execution, and is changed when the communication error is recovered. Note that needless re-execution request jobs are created if you repeat re-executions.

    Error

Extracts only the job request that resulted in an execution error, and re-requests the management relay server, relay system, or managed computer to execute the job.

  3. Click the Execute button.

The job is re-executed with the specified settings.
