10.3.1 Executing and saving a job

This section describes how to execute a job immediately after creation, and how to save a job after creation and then execute it. This section also describes how to find a specific destination and then execute a job.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Executing a job immediately after creating it

To execute a job immediately after creating it:

  1. Click the Execute button in the Create Job dialog box.

The job is executed, and the Create Job dialog box closes.

Note that if you want to specify a date and time when a job is executed, you need to save the job first.

(2) Executing a job after saving it

A job is saved in each folder in the Job Definition window of Remote Install Manager. The following describes how to execute a job that has been created and saved.

(a) Saving a job

A job is saved in the Job Definition window of Remote Install Manager.

To save a job:

  1. Click the Save button or Save & Execute button in the Create Job dialog box.

The Save Job dialog box appears. You can adjust the size of the Save Job dialog box to a comfortable size. If you change the size, the dialog box will be displayed with that size the next time you open it.

The job is saved in the selected folder.

If you have clicked the Save & Execute button in step 1, the job is saved and executed at the same time.

(b) Executing a saved job

You can check or execute a saved job in the Job Definition window of Remote Install Manager.

To execute a job selected in the Job Definition window:

  1. Select a job you want to execute in the Job Definition window.

    The selected job is highlighted.

  2. Select Execute, and then Execute Job.

The job is executed. You can also execute the job in either of the following ways:

    • Click the Execute Job button.

    • Press the F5 key.

Pressing the F5 key opens up a confirmation dialog box that asks the user whether to execute the job. If you execute a job with the In the future, do not display the confirmation message check box selected, the confirmation dialog box will not appear again when you press the F5 key. If you want to re-open the confirmation dialog box, press the Ctrl + F5 keys to execute a job.

Note that even if you have selected Server starts the job at specified date/time in the Schedule page during job creation, the execution date/time setting of the job will be changed to Immediate execution when the job is executed with the menu or the F5 key after the job is saved.

(3) Finding a specific destination and executing a job

The following describes how to execute a job after finding a specific destination in the System Configuration window or Destination window. You can find a destination by an IP address, destination name, host group name, ID group name, and host registration date. You can also find a host on which a job error has occurred, and connect to the host via a remote control function to investigate the cause of the error.

The following table shows available search keys for the System Configuration window and Destination window:

This section describes how to execute a job by finding a destination by a name such as an IP address, destination name, host group name, ID group name.

  1. Select Options, and then Find in the System Configuration window or Destination window.

The Find dialog box appears. The items in the Find dialog box differ depending on whether it is opened from the System Configuration window or the Destination window.

The system searches for a destination that includes the specified string.

  3. In the Search results list, right click a destination to which you want to execute a job, and select the Execute Job menu.

In the Define New Job dialog box that appears, you can execute a job for the selected destination.

(b) Find by dates

This subsection describes how to execute a job by searching for a host according to the date when the host was registered on the management server. For details about how to search by date, see 6.1.2 Searching for hosts by date and 6.1.5 Example of maintenance of system configuration information.

  1. Select Options, and then Find in the System Configuration window.

    The Find dialog box opens.

  2. Select the Find by Dates tab.

Figure 10‒16: Find by Dates page

    [Figure]

  3. Specify a range of dates for your search.

    Range

Specify one or both of the start date and end date for your search. Specify in the format of MM/DD/YY, where MM represents the month, DD represents the day, YY represents the last two digits of the year. The specifiable date range is from January 1, 1971 to December 31, 2037.

To specify only the start date or the end date, clear the check box for the date you omit.

    For the past n months

Specify the past number of months you want to include in the search range. The specifiable number of months is from 1 to 999. The default value is 1. If you have performed a search once, the number you specified previously will appear. However, if the date specified by the past number of months becomes earlier than the searchable date limit of January 1, 1971, the search range is set to from January 1, 1971 to the current date.

    For the past n days

Specify the past number of days you want to include in the search range. The specifiable number of days is from 1 to 999. The default value is 1. If you have performed a search once, the number you specified previously will appear. However, if the date specified by the past number of days becomes earlier than the searchable date limit of January 1, 1971, the search range is set to from January 1, 1971 to the current date.

  4. After specifying a search condition, click the Find button.

The search starts, and the results appear in the Search results list at the lower part of the dialog box.

You can adjust the size of the Find dialog box to a comfortable size.

  5. In the Search results list, right click a host on which you want to execute a job, and select the Execute Job menu.

In the Define New Job dialog box that appears, you can execute a job on the selected host.

(c) Using a remote control function

This section describes how to search for a specific host, and then connect to the host with the remote control function. This helps you to easily investigate the cause of an error when a job error occurs on a host.

  1. Select Options, and then Find in the System Configuration window or Destination window.

    The Find dialog box appears.

  2. Search for a destination.

For details about how to do this, see 10.3.1(3)(a) Find by name and 10.3.1(3)(b) Find by dates.

  3. In the Search results list, right click a destination and select the Start Remote Control menu.

    The controller starts up.

If one of the conditions below applies, the Start Remote Control dialog box appears. In this case, perform step 4.

    • When you selected multiple hosts

    • When you performed a search by an ID group name and host group name, and multiple hosts are returned in the search results

Figure 10‒17: Start Remote Control dialog box

      [Figure]

  4. Select a host on which you want to start a controller, and click the Start button.

The controller for the selected host starts.

Note the following if a PC that uses Remote Install Manager specifies Host name for the operation key:

  • If you select a host name to connect to the host, the address must be able to be resolved in the PC using Remote Install Manager.

  • If you select a single host, and you have the IP address information of the host, you can select either the host name or IP address to connect to that host. However, in an environment where destination IP address changes dynamically, you may not be able to connect to the intended PC if you select an IP address.
