JP1 Version 12 JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 Distribution Function Administration Guide

5.1.1 Approaches to creating system configuration information

The following describes the ways you can create system configuration information in a JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 system, and the criteria for selecting the appropriate method for your situation.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Methods of creating system configuration information

There are three ways to create system configuration information:

Creating system configuration information automatically

This method creates system configuration information automatically based on the physical configuration of the network, and applies it to the System Configuration window.

When changes are made to the system configuration, the managing server is automatically notified of the changes. Examples include the addition or removal of a managed computer or relay system, or changes to a host name or IP address. This eliminates the need to perform maintenance of system configuration information on the managing server.

By using the facility for automatically registering the system configuration, you can also update ID group memberships automatically when the system configuration changes. For details about linking system configuration information with ID groups, see 5.4 Linking system configuration information with ID group information.

Updating system configuration information by outputting it to a file

You can save system configuration information to a file. You can then restore the system configuration from the file if a problem occurs in the system.

Creating system configuration information in the System Configuration window

You can define the host name or IP address of individual managed computers and relay systems in Remote Install Manager.

Collecting system configuration information for systems under management relay servers

To manage system configuration information for the entire system from the manager in a managing server system in a hierarchical structure, you must collect system configuration information for systems under management relay servers according to the following procedure:

  1. Create system configuration information for each management relay server.

  2. From the manager, execute a Get system configuration information job for each management relay server.

You can use the manager to collect system configuration information for the entire system.

After collecting system configuration information for the entire system, you can use the facility for automatically registering the system configuration to maintain the system configuration information. When the system configuration under a management relay server is changed, the change details are automatically reported to the manager from the management relay server.

If one of the following methods is used on a management relay server to change the system configuration, the change details will not be automatically reported to the manager from the management relay server. In this case, execute a Get system configuration information job for the management relay server.

  • Creating system configuration information as a file

  • Creating system configuration information in the System Configuration window

  • Deleting system configuration information in the System Configuration window

  • Deleting system configuration information in the Search dialog box

If you change the connection destinations of relay systems or management relay servers in a large-scale system with three or more tiers, information about system configuration under the systems you moved might not be reported to the new managing server. If the information has not been reported, from the new managing server, execute a Get system configuration information job for the relay systems or management relay servers that you moved.
