JP1 Version 12 JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 Distribution Function Administration Guide

3.1.5 Using the distribution function in a multi-LAN environment

You can use JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 in environments with multiple LAN connections, in which a single computer incorporates multiple network adapters (such as NICs).

JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 supports the following multiple LAN connection environments:

The following describes how to use JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 in each of these environments.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Environments divided into multiple networks

The following figure shows an example of an environment divided into multiple networks:

Figure 3‒1: Example of environment divided into multiple networks

[Figure]

In a network environment that is divided into multiple networks, each job execution request includes the IP address of the requesting system. This allows managed computers to request jobs from the correct source.

When a higher system requests job execution:

The higher system acquires the IP address of the local system that successfully established a socket connection with the lower system, and communicates it to the lower system as the requesting source IP address.

When a lower system requests job reception:

The lower system establishes a socket connection to the requesting source IP address received with the job execution request from the higher system, and requests job reception.

(2) Environments with duplex networks

The following figure shows an example of an environment with duplex networks:

Figure 3‒2: Example of environment with duplex networks

[Figure]

In an environment with duplex networks, operation might switch to the backup network when a failure occurs in the main network. You might also have adopted a configuration in which the communication lines used by JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 are limited to those of the main network.

You can use JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 in this kind of environment by assigning an order of priority to network adapters when you configure the agent software. The relevant settings can be made in the Settings to perform polling for multiple higher systems area of the Communication settings page during agent setup.
