1.2.2 Types of remote collection jobs

The figure below shows the types of jobs that are involved in the remote collection process. Use the jobs that are appropriate for your network environment and the way you use the system.

Figure 1‒6: Types of remote collection jobs

[Figure]

When you create a Collect files from agent job or a Remote-collect files from agent to relay computer job, you can specify remote collection options for the job. These include the collection time on the managed computer, whether to compress the files, and whether to start an external program.

For details about how to set these options, see 9.1.1 Executing remote collection.

Each type of job is described below.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Collect files from agent job

This job collects files from managed computers via relay systems and management relay servers and places them on the managing server. You can also use this job to collect files from managed computers without using relay systems and management relay servers, from managed computers to relay systems or management relay servers, or from relay systems or management relay servers to managing sever.

(2) Remote-collect files from agent to relay computer job

This job collects files as instructed by the managing server, and stores the collected files on the relay system or management relay server under the managing server where the job was executed. If the relay systems or management relay servers are in a hierarchical structure, collected files will be stored in the relay system or management relay server directly under the managing server where the job was executed.

You can collect files in two stages by using this job together with an Acquire collected files from relay computer job.

(3) Acquire collected files from relay computer job

This job transfers the files collected by a Remote-collect files from agent to relay computer job from the relay system or management relay server to the managing server.

Remote collection imposes a high load on the network between a relay system or management relay server and the managing server. You can make file collection more efficient by using a Remote-collect files from agent to relay computer job first to store collected files temporarily on a relay system or management relay server. Later, such as at night when network traffic is low, you can use an Acquire collected files from relay computer job to transfer those files to the managing server. When relay systems or management relay servers are in a hierarchical structure, you might specify the job destination as a relay system or management relay server not directly under the managing server. In this case, however, files will be collected from the relay system or management relay server directly under the managing server.

(4) Delete collected files from relay computer job

This job deletes files collected onto relay systems or management relay servers by a Remote-collect files from agent to relay computer job. When relay systems or management relay servers are in a hierarchical structure, you might specify the job destination as a relay system or management relay server not directly under the managing server. In this case, however, files will be deleted from the relay system or management relay server directly under the managing server.
