5.2 Register Host window

The Register Host window is used to add hosts to the Host List tab of IM Configuration Management.

The following figure shows an example of the Register Host window.

Figure 5‒13: Register Host window

[Figure]

The following describes the items displayed in the Host Registration window. An item with an asterisk (*) must be specified.

Host

Specifies the name of the host to be registered in the system hierarchy, or the name of the device to register in the business group. From 1 to 255 bytes can be specified. The specifiable characters are alphanumeric characters, hyphens (-), and periods (.). Note that the host name cannot end with a hyphen (-) or a period (.).

The user must keep the following in mind when entering the host name:

  • Make sure that the host name being specified has been assigned to an agent. If a host name that has not been assigned to an agent is specified, JP1/IM - Manager will not operate normally.

  • Do not specify an IP address or alias as the name of the host to be registered in the system hierarchy.

  • The host name must be one that the system can resolve.

IP address

The IP address of the host to be registered in the system hierarchy is automatically entered. The user cannot type an IP address.

Comment

The user can enter a comment about the host to be registered in the system hierarchy. From 0 to 80 bytes can be specified.

Host type

Specifies the type of the host to be registered in the system hierarchy. The user can select Physical host, Logical host, Virtual host, or Unknown. Associated hosts can be entered, depending on the host type.

Note that you do not need to change the host type from Physical host if you do not manage a virtualization system configuration. For details, see 7.3 Virtualization configuration management in the JP1/Integrated Management 2 - Manager Overview and System Design Guide.

When Physical host is selected:

Virtual Manager Type

Sets the virtual manager type for the selected host. One of the following types can be set:

  • vCenter

  • JP1/SC/CM

  • SCVMM

  • HCSM

  • KVM

Setup

Clicking this button opens the Virtual Manager Settings window, which can be used to set virtualization management information.

After the virtualization manager type for the physical host has been set, if the Host type value is changed to Logical host or Unknown, a dialog box that displays the KNAN20301-Q message appears. If the Yes button is clicked, the virtualization manager type set in JP1/IM - View and the collected virtualization configuration information is deleted.

When Logical host is selected:

Active host

The user enters the name of the active logical host. From 0 to 255 bytes can be specified. The specifiable characters are alphanumeric characters, hyphens (-), and periods (.).

Standby host

The user enters the name of the standby host. Multiple host names require a comma (,) as a separator. A maximum of four host names can be entered. From 0 to 1,024 bytes can be specified. The specifiable characters are alphanumeric characters, hyphens (-), periods (.), and commas (,).

When Virtual host is selected:

[Figure]

VMM host

The user enters the name of the host on which VMM is running. From 1 to 255 bytes can be specified. The specifiable characters are alphanumeric characters, hyphens (-), and periods (.).

After the virtualization manager type for the virtual host has been set, if the Host type value is changed to Logical host or Unknown, a dialog box that displays the KNAN20301-Q message appears. If the Yes button is clicked, the virtualization manager type set in JP1/IM - View and the collected virtualization configuration information is deleted.

When Unknown is selected:

Remote communication settings

This drop-down list selects the communication method for remote monitoring. The user can select WMI/NetBIOS or SSH. If remote monitoring will not be performed, the user does not need to specify the setting.

Setup

Clicking this button opens the Remote Monitoring Settings window, which can be used to set the communication method for remote monitoring. For details about the Remote Monitoring Settings window, see 5.7 Remote Monitoring Settings window.
