3.5.2 How to use Terminal Nodes

A Terminal Node must be placed at the starting or end point in an Operational Flow, or at both points.

Placing a Terminal Node at the starting point

You can place a Branch Node immediately after the start Terminal Node to create an Operational Flow that returns to the first Process Node in midstream.

Placing a Terminal Node at the end point

When a Terminal Node is placed at the end point of the Operational Flow, the Done button appears in the guide area. If you click the Done button, a message appears in the guide area and the system assumes that the Operational Flow has ended. Depending on the settings specified during system construction, a dialog box confirming that you want to discard input information is not displayed.

If you use a Branch Node, multiple end points might be generated in the flow. In this case, you can place a Terminal Node at each end point.

Note
  • If you want to hide the Done button, use a Process Node (rather than a Terminal Node) at the end point of the Operational Flow. However, if you want to obtain the audit log to monitor the completion of the Operational Content, you need to place a Terminal Node at the end point of the Operational Flow. For details about how to use the audit log, contact the system administrator.

  • If direct transition to Process Nodes is enabled and you want to explicitly specify the initial node (a Process Node selected when Operational Content is displayed), you must connect the initial node to the start Terminal Node. If you want to change the direct transition settings, contact the system administrator.

Tip

To use the reporting window to check analysis information regarding usage, you need to place the end Terminal Node at the end of the Operational Flow. For details about the reporting window, see 6.9 How to analyze the usage of Operational Content.
