JP1 Version 12 JP1/Navigation Platform Setup and Operations Guide

5.4 Handling of operation logs from Operational Contents

An operation log is an operation history that is output each time a node changes in Operational Contents.

Important

No operation log is output when executing Operational Contents that are configured to allow offline execution. For details about the offline execution of Operational Contents, see the manual JP1/Navigation Platform Content Editing Guide.

Navigation Platform enables you to check operation log analysis results in the following windows:

For details about the Reporting window and the Dashboard window, see the manual JP1/Navigation Platform Content Editing Guide.

For details about setting the timing for operation log analysis, see 8.4 Specifying settings in the service property file (ucnp_service.ini).

Tip

The operation logs that are to be analyzed are sent to the analysis server at the time that has been set in the service property file. If you perform an operation that involves output of operation log data while an operation log is being updated, the operation might take some time to complete. For this reason, we recommend that you update operation logs when traffic to Navigation Platform is light.

If the information provided in the analysis results displayed in the Reporting window is not adequate, you can view the operation log file and perform user-specific analyses. The operation log can be used as analysis data to determine improvements to Operational Contents.

For example, the following procedure enables you to use the operation log:

  1. Use a spreadsheet program to process and analyze the operation log that is output as a text file.

  2. If any of the nodes requires a considerably longer time to change to the next node, ask the user why that is.

  3. Based on the information provided by the user, improve the description in the Guide.

The operation log is set to be output by default. This file's character encoding is UTF-8. If you want to suppress output of the operation log or customize the storage location and contents of the operation log, evaluate the values of the related properties in the user property file (ucnp_user.properties). For details about the user property file (ucnp_user.properties), see 8.5 Specifying settings in the user property file (ucnp_user.properties).

Important
  • Do not edit the operation log file, because it is used for analysis by Navigation Platform. If you want to perform user-specific analyses, make a copy of the operation log file and then use the copy for performing analyses.

  • If you copy the operation log file while Navigation Platform is running, you might no longer be able to change the settings that control whether the operation log file is to be output and the number of files to be output. Therefore, copy the operation log file while Navigation Platform is stopped.

  • The Reporting window does not support analysis of the operation logs of multiple execution environments in the batch mode. To analyze the operation logs of multiple execution environments in the batch mode, you need to perform user-specific analyses without using the Reporting window. We recommend that you use Operational Content execution IDs as the key values when you perform user-specific analyses on the operation log. This method enables you to analyze the operation log for each operation even when the same user is using multiple execution environments.

Note

Separate from the operation log, there is the audit log. For details about how to obtain the audit log and its items, see 5.5 Audit log.
