JP1 Version 12 JP1/Navigation Platform Setup and Operations Guide

5.3.3 Re-organizing a database

If addition and deletion of Operational Contents are repeated, the database's access efficiency and storage efficiency might decline. You can ameliorate this problem by periodically executing the npreorg command (reorganize the database). We recommend that you execute the npreorg once every six months. For details about how to use the command, see 9.14 npreorg command (reorganize the database).

To reorganize a database:

  1. Execute the npstop command (stop) or set the status of the Navigation Platform Start Service to stop to stop the system.

    Command path:

    Navigation-Platform-installation-directory\bin\npstop

  2. Verify that there is at least 3.0 GB of free space available for the Navigation Platform installation directory.

If there is not enough free space, the command will terminate abnormally. Make sure that you check the available space beforehand. If there is not enough free space, take appropriate corrective action, such as, for example, by re-arranging data to increase the amount of available space.

  3. Use the npreorg command (database re-organization) to reorganize the database.

    Command path:

    Navigation-Platform-installation-directory\bin\npreorg

  4. Execute the npstart command (start) or set the status of the Navigation Platform Start Service to start to start the system.

    Command path:

    Navigation-Platform-installation-directory\bin\npstart

Important

If the npreorg command (database re-organization) terminates abnormally, re-execute it before you perform any other operation. If any other operation is performed before you re-execute the npreorg command, the database's status might become invalid. The following provides the details.

  • Do not forcibly terminate the npreorg command (database re-organization) while the KDCZ70004-I message is being displayed.

  • If the KDCZ78001-E, KDCZ78002-E, or KDCZ78003-E message is displayed when the npreorg command (database re-organization) terminates, re-execute the npreorg command (database re-organization) before you perform any other operation.

Tip

When you run a database, consider the following:

  • It is important to reorganize your database periodically. It is most convenient to set a group of commands to reorganize the database automatically by, for example, using Windows Task Scheduler.

  • It might take some time to reorganize a database. Shut down the system when the demand on Operational Content usage is low, and notify the users of the Operational Contents in advance that the system is going to be shut down.
