5.2.5 Restoring the entire system (reconfiguring the system on another machine)

If backup data cannot be restored on the same machine, such as, for example, in the event of a hard disk failure, restore the backup data to a new machine.

To restore the entire system on a new machine:

1. Install Navigation Platform on the target machine.

   Navigation Platform must be installed in the same directory as when the backup data was acquired. Check the installpath.txt file in the backup data to determine the installation directory when the backup data was acquired.

2. Copy the data that was backed up by the npdatabackup command (back up the environment) to any location on the target machine with the attributes maintained.

3. Copy the user setup property file (ucnp_setup_user.properties) contained in the data that was copied in step 2 to the following directory:

   Source file:

   backup-data-storage-directory\HNP\conf\ucnp_setup_user.properties

   Target directory:

   Navigation-Platform-installation-directory\conf

   This step is not necessary if you set up Navigation Platform by using the default settings without copying the setup property file to the destination directory.

4. If you have changed the authenticator password for Active Directory after the backup processing, edit the user setup property file to set the new password in the ucnp.setup.server.ldap.java.naming.security.credentials property.

5. Import any CA certificate that was imported when LDAPS was used.

   For details about the import procedure, see "4. Importing a new CA certificate" in 5.15.1 Procedure for registering or updating a CA certificate in the keystore.

6. Execute the npsetup command (setup) to set up Navigation Platform.

   Command path:

   Navigation-Platform-installation-directory\bin\npsetup

7. If the database size had been extended in the environment during backup processing, execute the npextendrdarea command (extend the database) to extend the database size.

   Command path:

   Navigation-Platform-installation-directory\bin\npextendrdarea

8. Execute the npstop command (stop) to stop the system.

   Command path:

   Navigation-Platform-installation-directory\bin\npstop

9. If backups of operation log and audit log have been acquired, place the acquired files in the appropriate log folders.

10. If a backup of the dashboard server's memory settings has been acquired, restore the dashboard server's memory settings based on the contents of the acquired file.

    For details about how to change the dashboard server's memory settings, see 5.4.4(7) Changing the memory capacity required for the storage service of the dashboard server.

    Tip

    For details about the values specified for the commands, check the jvm.options.npsettings.txt file in the following folder obtained during backup processing.

    Navigation-Platform-installation-directory\PP\OpenSearch\opensearch\config

11. If a backup of tasks that execute commands provided by Navigation Platform has been acquired, restore the task settings based on the acquired backup.

12. Use the npdatarestore command (restore environment) to restore the data for Navigation Platform.

    Command path:

    Navigation-Platform-installation-directory\bin\npdatarestore

13. Restore the backup User Plugins by referencing the procedure described in 6.6 Applying the files created in the development environment.

    When you reference the procedure described in 6.6 Applying the files created in the development environment, change files created in the development environment to data that was backed up. At the same time and if necessary, also restore the configuration files required by the User Plugins and the linked systems, such as databases.

    Tip

    If the User Plugins' source files are managed by a system other than Navigation Platform, copy the source files from that system.

14. If the search function is enabled, execute the npupdatesearchdata command (update search data) to apply the most recent Operational Content information to the search data.

    Command path:

    Navigation-Platform-installation-directory\bin\npupdatesearchdata
