2.3.4 Creating agent levels for monitoring

In Performance Management, agents being monitored can be managed and monitored by level. There are two types of agent levels:

Agent management and monitoring are performed from the Agents window in PFM - Web Console.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Creating folders

The following example shows folders created for each branch office.

To create a folder:

  1. In the navigation frame of the main window, select the Agents tab.

  2. In the method frame of the Agents window, select the Edit Agent Tree method.

  3. In the Edit Agent Tree window, select User Agents (name-of-user-to-log-in) from the information frame, and then click the New Folder button.

  4. In the Edit Agent Tree > New Folder window, enter Headquarters (Data Center) for New folder name.

  5. Click the OK button.

    The Headquarters (Data Center) folder is created under User Agents (name-of-user-to-log-in) in the information frame.

  6. Using the same operations as steps 3 to 5, create the following folders:

    • San Francisco Branch

    • San Diego Branch

  7. Select the Headquarters (Data Center) folder created in steps 3 to 5 and click the New Folder button.

  8. Enter Internet Marketing System for New folder name and click the OK button.

    Similar levels are created as in the following figure.

(2) Placing PFM - Agent

After creating folders, place agents (PFM - Agent product) in each folder.

To place an agent in the Internet Marketing System folder:

  1. In the method frame of the Agents window, select the Edit Agent Tree method.

    The Edit Agent Tree window is displayed.

    User Agents (name-of-user-to-log-in) is displayed in the information frame of the Edit Agent Tree window.

  2. In the Edit Agent Tree window, from the agent level, select the Internet Marketing System folder, and then click the New Agent button.

    In the Edit Agent Tree > New Agent window, the PFM - Agents connected to the PFM - Manager is displayed. The name of each PFM - Agent is displayed as a service ID. For example, if the product name display function is active and WebAP is the host name for the PFM - Agent for Platform (Windows) agent, WebAP<Windows> is displayed.

    For details about service IDs, see B.1 Naming rules for service IDs and service keys. For details about the product name display function, see 4.1.2 Displaying and specifying services (the product name display function).

  3. From the agent level, select the PFM - Agent to add to the folder.

    Multiple PFM - Agents can also be selected. A selected PFM - Agent is marked with a check mark.

  4. Click the OK button.

    The PFM - Agent is added under the Internet Marketing System folder as shown in the following figure:

Reference note:

The same PFM - Agent can be placed in multiple folders. It can also be placed directly under User Agents (name-of-user-to-log-in) without being placed in a folder.
