Job Management Partner 1/Software Distribution Administrator's Guide Volume 1
You specify an alert issuance method and system monitoring targets in the following two steps:
- Setting on the System Monitoring page in the setup
This setting applies to the entire system monitoring. First select the Monitor the system option and then select the desired operations from those listed. In the default, the check box is cleared.
- Display the System Monitoring icon in the task bar notification area
- Select this option if you want to use the System Monitoring icon as the system monitoring interface. For details about the System Monitoring icon, see 11.8.3 Using the System Monitoring icon.
- Display alert messages
- Select this option if you want to issue alerts by displaying pop-up messages.
- Report alerts to the higher system
- Select this option if you want to report alerts to the higher system.
You can display alert messages on the Alert History page by simply choosing the Monitor the system option.
- Settings in the Conditions Settings for System Monitoring window displayed from Local System Viewer
This setting applies separately to individual system monitoring targets. For each monitoring target, you specify whether it should be monitored, types of events to be reported, and what should be done when an alert occurs. These settings are called monitoring conditions. In the default setting, all monitoring conditions are selected. For details about monitoring conditions, see (2) Monitoring conditions.
This section explains the monitoring conditions you specify in the Conditions Settings for System Monitoring window. You can save the specified monitoring conditions in a file or read saved monitoring conditions from a file. To display the Conditions Settings for System Monitoring window, you need Administrator permissions.

By selecting the check boxes inside this window, you specify monitoring conditions for each monitoring item. The following two items are displayed in the monitoring item field:
- Hard disk space usage (monitored for each logical drive)
- Virtual memory capacity
If you select the Monitoring check boxes for these items, these items become system monitoring targets. Additionally, if you specify an alert message reporting method (Display alert messages, Acquire alert history items, or Report alerts to the higher system) for the items for which the Monitoring check boxes are selected, you can report alerts using the selected method.
Double-clicking a monitoring item name opens the Properties dialog box for that item. You can also specify monitoring conditions in this dialog box. Furthermore, in the Properties dialog box, you can specify detailed settings, such as monitoring intervals and threshold values. For details about the settings in the Properties dialog box, see (3) Settings in the Properties dialog box.
After you have specified monitoring conditions in the Conditions Settings for System Monitoring window, choose Edit and then Update Settings to update the settings.
Each of the monitoring conditions is explained as follows.
(2) Monitoring conditions
Monitoring conditions that can be specified for each monitoring item are explained as follows. The names shown here are those that are used in the Conditions Settings for System Monitoring window. The names of some of the monitoring conditions are different in the Properties dialog box. For details about the names in the Properties dialog box and how to set them, see (3) Settings in the Properties dialog box.
- Monitoring
- This check box specifies whether to monitor the item. In the default setting, it is selected. An item for which Monitoring is specified is displayed in black letters on the System Conditions page of Local System Viewer and its status is updated every 30 minutes.
- Choosing Monitoring selects the check boxes for other monitoring conditions, which you can then specify.
- This setting becomes valid when the Monitor the system check box is selected on the System Monitoring page of the setup.
- Report critical events
- Issues an alert when the monitoring item reaches a critical state. In the default setting, this check box is selected. When you select this check box, you can set a critical threshold.
- This check box becomes selected when one of the alert processing options (Display alert messages, Acquire alert history items, and Report alerts to the higher system) is selected.
- Report warning events
- Issues an alert when the monitoring item approaches a critical state. In the default setting, this check box is selected. When it is selected, you can specify a warning threshold.
- This check box becomes selected when one of the alert processing options (Display alert messages, Acquire alert history items, and Report alerts to the higher system) is selected.
- Report normal events
- Issues an alert when the monitoring item returns to its normal state after having reached a critical or warning state. In the default setting, this check box is selected.
- This check box becomes selected when one of the alert processing options (Display alert messages, Acquire alert history items, and Report alerts to the higher system) is selected.
- Display alert messages
- Issues an alert by displaying a pop-up message when an error is detected in the monitoring item. In the default setting, this check box is selected.
- This setting becomes valid when Display alert messages is selected on the System Monitoring page of the setup. For details about issuing an alert by displaying a pop-up message, see 11.8.4(3) Reporting an alert by displaying a pop-up message.
