2.5.13 Executing remote installation on a client with a dial-up IP connection

It may not be cost effective, even for a large system, to employ a LAN at a remote sales office or branch office where there are only a few clients. In such a case, a dial-up IP connection with ISDN is often used to establish direct connection with the network at the main office. However, with a dial-up IP connection, the client must connect to the network in order to connect to the managing server, and the client may not necessarily be connected to the network when the managing server attempts to execute the job on the client.

For a host that uses a dial-up IP to establish connection, use the Send package, allow client to choose job. This job is executed when the client's Package Setup Manager is started; therefore, the client can execute installation at any time by means of its dial-up IP connection.

If any other job is being executed on the client while it is connected via the dial-up IP, the user cannot select desired software as is normally the case with a Send package, allow client to choose job, but the user can still specify desired execution timing.

In the case of a dial-up IP connection, JP1/Software Distribution can also itself establish connection by dialing the client automatically. For details about dial-up connection, see 6.6 Settings for dial-up connections in the manual Description and Planning Guide.
