2.1.1 Starting Packager

To package software, use the Software Distribution Packager window of Packager. Note that if you output audit logs, you must start Packager as a user with update permission for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE in the registry.

(1) Starting Packager

To display the Software Distribution Packager window:

  1. From Start, choose the Packager icon.
    The Software Distribution Manager Logon dialog box appears. The Software Distribution Manager Logon dialog box differs depending on the product type to which Packager is connected.
    • For JP1/Software Distribution Manager

    • For JP1/Software Distribution Client (relay system) or JP1/Software Distribution SubManager

    Software Distribution server name
    Specify the host name of the managing server to which Packager will connect. If you have previously started Packager as a user with update permission for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE in the registry, the previous server name used to establish connection is displayed by default.
    Product type
    For the managing server type, choose Software Distribution Manager, or Software Distribution Client (relay system) or Software Distribution SubManager.
    User ID
    This item is displayed for a relational database. Set the administrator ID.
    When JP1/ Software Distribution users are managed in conjunction with JP1/Base, enter the user name of a JP1 user who has permission to operate Packager.
    Password
    This item is displayed for a relational database. Set the password that was set by Database Manager.
    If you have entered a JP1 user in the User ID field, specify that JP1 user's password.
    Details
    Choosing this button shows the Detailed Information Setup dialog box. You can use this dialog box to modify settings related to the connection destination, communications, and dial-up connection. For details about the settings in the Detailed Information Setup dialog box, see (2) Setting the detailed information.
  2. Specify the necessary information and click the Connect button.
    The system connects to the managing server that you set in Software Distribution server name and displays the Software Distribution Packager window.

    The Software Distribution Packager window displays the following two windows:
    • File window
      This window is used to select the software to be packaged.
    • Package window
      This window shows the packages stored in the cabinet. You can delete packages or edit the cabinet.

(2) Setting the detailed information

This section describes the information you can set in the Detailed Information Setup dialog box. You can use this dialog box to modify settings related to Packager's connection destination.

(a) Connection Destination Server page

On the Connection Destination Server page, you can add or modify Packager's connection destination managing servers:

A list of managing servers to which connection can currently be made is displayed under Connection destination servers. Choose Add or Change and specify the desired information for the managing servers to be added or modified in the Server Information dialog box.

To delete a connectable managing server, select the name of the JP1/Software Distribution server and choose Delete.

Software Distribution server name

Product type

Database

If a managing server under Software Distribution server name is using a relational database with the Software Distribution Manager, select the Use a relational database check box.

Connection destination servers
If you have previously started Packager as a user with update permission for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE in the registry, the previous server name used to establish connection is displayed by default.
(b) Communication page

On the Communication page, specify the port numbers that Packager is to use. If a relay system component has been installed, this setting also takes effect for the relay system.

Normally, you should use the default values. If a default value is already being used by another program, then you must change the value. If a port number is also defined in the services file for TCP/IP, the value in the services file takes effect.

This page is disabled if a user who does not have the update privilege for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE in the registry starts Packager.

(c) Dial-up page

On the Dial-up page, specify the settings for a dial-up connection. If the environment does not support a dial-up connection, this page is disabled.

To use a dial-up connection, select the Dial-up connection check box, and enter the user name, password, and domain to be used for the dial-up connection.

User name
Specify 1 to 127 characters.

Password
Specify a maximum of 30 characters.

Domain
Specify a maximum of 127 characters.

This page is disabled if a user who does not have the update privilege for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE in the registry starts Packager.
