Appendix E.2 Converting a DBMS

This appendix explains the flow of converting the asset management database among Microsoft SQL Server, Embedded RDB, and Oracle.

Note
When converting from Embedded RDB or Oracle to Microsoft SQL Server, you must set the Microsoft SQL Server collating sequence to Binary, and specify the case-sensitive setting. Also, after converting from Microsoft SQL Server to Embedded RDB or Oracle, the case-sensitive setting is applied.
  1. Obtain a backup of the asset management database in CSV format.
For details about how to obtain a backup of the asset management database in CSV format, see 12.1.1 Backing up and restoring the asset management database in CSV format.
  2. Re-install Asset Information Manager.
In the maintenance window, select Modify, and in the dialog box for selecting the type of asset management database, select a type for the asset management database after conversion.
  3. In the Server Setup dialog box, set Login ID and Service name in Database Information.
  4. From the Database Manager dialog box, create an asset management database.
For details about how to create an asset management database, see 5.4 Creating an asset management database.
    Note
When the database area is created from the Database Manager dialog box, it is created by the collating sequence set during a custom installation of Microsoft SQL Server (or during a standard installation of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or Microsoft SQL Server 2005). Therefore, if you want to change the collating sequence to one other than the one set during installation, you will need to create the database manually.
  5. From the Database Manager dialog box, restore the asset management database.
For details about how to restore data, see 12.1.1(3) Restoring the asset management database from the Database Manager dialog box.
